Say that in three months... but obviously it still is 1) improper page construction; 2) still spam; and 3) there isn't any evidence it is effective, especially since you didn't set up a second page with the same linking and title, without the H1s. You haven't tested anything, other than to display that the phrase "poker seo" is not competitive. Your Poker SEO page is #11, but your main page, which only mentions poker seo in link text, is #25, with only one H1 tag.

Even without a proper test we can see where the page is in three months, but so far we just see this isn't a competitive term.

Lets not bring longevity into it, its about your defacto statement that multiple h1's don't have any effect...period! Seem pretty certain? What'd you base that off of?
They don't have a lot, can get you in trouble if abused, but they do carry a small amount of weight in a proper context.
Its from the list of things that don't do a lot alone, but when combined can.
By the book semantics & content will only get you so far, especially in a cutthroat market.

As for that page? It was 15min joke/test, pretty much called the outcome & don't need to prove what I already knew/know.
5 days did surprise me a bit though, was expecting 10ish.

waves white flag lol

C'mon don't be silly. Longevity is the WHOLE POINT.

It is easy to get rankings quickly using all sorts of spam techniques, but the point is they get discovered/removed/reported/penalized.

Getting something to rank quickly is completely useless and proves nothing. You could spam 100,000 blog pages and rank in the top 10 for that phrase right away, but the page would get penalized pretty quickly.

I doubt the h1 tags had much to do with ranking for these keywords. I bet you would have had the same results if you just put "poker seo" first in the title tag, then wrote an article about baking cookies and bolded that exact phrase 3 times in the article. As for the secondary keyword, well its just a matter of putting that exact keyword phrase just one time on your page whether its in an h1 tag or not and you will still be up there since your one of only a few websites that has that exact phrase.

If you want some genuine results, just take the h1s out and see what you rank for in a week. Then you know exactly what those h1s are doing for you.

Yeah, but how many H1 tags should I use on a page in order to rank for "online poker"? Do you think fifteen of them would do the trick?

Maybe since it's a competitive term I should start with 20 of them and then increase the number of H1 tags until I start to rank.

Man, this could start a revolution in the SEO industry!

But then what would happen if there is H1 tag escalation and proliferation? I can see how I might end up in an H1 tag "arms race" with some other webmaster who wants to rank for "online poker". That could get pretty ugly.

Greg in most cases I do listen to what most of the affiliates say here but this little test proves nothing and if anything shows a newbie the wrong thing to do. What is the point of ranking for something now if you cant have that same position 6 mths from now or even better a year?

OMG Randy I think that is the funniest thing I have seen yet. I think if you are going to go for it might as well give it your all and just aim for poker...adn a few extra tags in there if the first 19 didnt hurt than I am sure another 10 or so wont either.

.
While I don't agree that H1 tags are a huge part of the equation, this above statement is flat out ludicrous. Of course it has value to rank for something for 6 months. Granted I would rather rank for the long term and I think that is what most of us strive for- however a six month ranking can have significant value, especially for good terms. If I can quickly get something to rank in the top 10 for six months while also working on a project that can lead to long term ranking success, why would I not do that?

A difference in opinon...I dont want to put together a half fast site to spam the hell out of everything just to rank where I know I can rank by doing it right.
