I should have been a little more clear with my statement. I did not mean to say to spam or to use any blackhat technique to get a better ranking. There are quite a few different ways to temporarily get a good ranking- ways that are quite legit.

Interesting test on the H1's

I have tried a similar thing with h2 and h4 tags - seems the h1's have a little more kick to them

Then don't spread it. You haven't shown the statement isn't correct, and you haven't shown multiple H1s are useful in either the short term or the long term. You've stated your opinion that they are effective. Fine, others don't agree.

That's the issue. kaus talked about why do things that won't rank well in six months. That doesn't even mean they WILL rank well for six months. The question here is spamming to have an effect, and the reasons to not do that are are even more than what kaus is suggesting.... if one of your pages gets penalized for spamming, this reflects on your whole domain. (The tactic of the more effective spammers is to make a long series of domains to use and then discard, since they know they will be caught eventually.)

What you are suggesting is different. For example, ranking first for "2008 World Series of Poker" is certainly something that would be good to do for six months. One way to do it is to make all your pages link to you 2008 WSOP page, but of course eventually you'll want to get rid of most of those links since in 2013 not many people will care about the 2008 event on a daily basis. But the point is you don't have to kill your domain for the longterm by spam/targeting a term for the short term.

See this is what I want ..my old site still ranks #5 for a term that I was in 1st position for ....for like a good 4 mths or longer. I stopped working towards that keyphrase because it wasnt proving to be successful for me. Others do convert with that site but I don't. I started targeting that phrase in Jan and than stopped in April.

I didnt spam blogs, or forums or add an extra wording.

Again its not an overly huge term, but that right there is my goal. To rank without even trying to because everything is done so well that it just happens. I am not saying that i did it so well cause honest it probably is alot of trial and error...but this is what I hope to accomplish with what I am doing now..just bigger goals

Come on man, personal attacks on people are bullshit. We can argue over h1 tags all day long and if it is good just short term or long term.

Looking at W3 Headings, I don't think there is really an argument if having 15 h1 tags is appropriate or not. I'm not saying it can help, or that it won't help, or that you will get penalized, or that you won't get penalized. Only google know this.

The term Poker SEO is a bad example all around though as it is not that hard to rank for. I am on the second page as well with no h1's and I have never tried to rank for it.

To both Randy and PPP's defense, I know many of the terms they rank for and they are competitive as hell. Whether they do it with html frontpage sites, ASP, PHP, or whatever......... they still rank.

What works for some may not work for others. That's the thing about SEO, a large % of it is all speculation because none of us have a 100% understanding about Google, and even if we did it is always changing.

You refuse to discuss SEO with someone that doesn't do their own work? Dude, I own dozens of websites, all of which I've built myself, without the use of a CMS. I built them one page at a time and wrote most of the content myself. I do consulting for some other sites where I don't do the work. That's what a consultant does - consult on what should be done. So what are you talking about?

I don't know what I'm doing? My results in the SERP's tell a different story. My sites rank for dozens of competitive one and two word gambling phrases and get thousands of unique visitors a day.

Regarding the job that you quit, what on earth does that have to do with THIS discussion? I recommended you for that job, said you were a good guy and knew what you were doing, and you repay me by coming on a public forum and announcing to the world that I don't know what I'm doing? And you do it in as insulting a manner as possible?

And PPP doesn't need me to defend bim, but he owns and operates multiple websites, so your facts aren't even straight.

Masquerading basic page syntax and construction as SEO? What are you talking about? Basic page syntax and construction is where SEO starts. Knowing that a page isn't supposed to have multiple H1 tags is as "1st grade" as it gets.

Demonstrating that you can rank behind 3 of my pages for the phrase "poker seo" doesn't really do a great job of making your case that multiple H1 tags is somehow effective, does it? You somehow think that getting on the 2nd page of a search engine query where I have 3 of the top 10 spots is going to convince people that you're a more effective SEO than I am? You think that's somehow going to convince people that YOU'RE the guy who can get them over the hump instead of me?

I don't understand 1st grade concepts? I can make a point in writing without peppering every other sentence with multiple uses of badly spelled profanity. And I know that "dude" isn't spelled "dewd". (And I don't end every other sentence with "lol".)

We've never had a cross word that I can recall, man. I don't have any idea why you'd be angry with me. I don't understand why you decided to flame me (or why I even feel the need to defend myself). I've made hundreds of helpful posts in this forum and helped dozens of webmasters here with their websites. What have you contributed to this community other than some snarky, barely coherent posts and some bad advice about how to use H1 tags?

Attacking me here like this was a lousy thing to do, and I'm not sure why you did it. But if your goal was to make ME look bad, I think you've failed.

This spilled over into my work via you & another squabble over title attributes on anchors this time & you calling them code bloat!
You didn't reply when I emailed you about it, then go backdoor to the owner about removing title tags again.
Thats when I got pissed!

Call my work code bloat?
This coming from a guy with like 70 break tags on his homepage? nice sampling of about every other deprecated tag too. centers, aligns...

Whats next? You guys gonna argue about the strength of anchor text? 'cuz the title tags that support them are bloat evidently.
Not to mention every text & screen reader out there uses them &/or speaks them aloud.

Tried to turn ya on to Editplus & the user files too, no reply & backdoor me on my job.
Yep, its a grest big FU!

P.S. The H1 site was a friggin joke, that nobody apparently got.
Seriously, it was body tag & a H1 nest fest, do you really think it was serious? The fact it ranked at all is what makes me go hmmmm?
