PSO didn't allow the translator to correct the work (that PSO claimed was inadequate), despite multiple offers to do so. Thus they have no leg to stand on.

There are PLENTY of other "this is not how to do business" lessons here on both sides, but the basic issue is straightforward. You simply have to pay for what you have contracted for, and certainly don't deduct a 'do it yourself' to fix what the contractor is offering to fix.

The only way to look at this is as if we are talking about an article on pre-flop strategy. If the author turns in some looney strategy, you still have to pay what you agreed, but you don't use him anymore.

This is exactly what I want to say. They really have no leg to stand on when I offered them to correct the docs a lot of times and they didnt sent any. The most annoying thing is- when they told me to do the proof reading and correct the docs, they didnt said that they will deduct the money. Only after I agreed to do the corrections and emailed them again n again for that, they told me that the rest of content is a lot better and they will send the docs if they need to be re-done. And still no docs, only the 15k$ deduction! Amazing!

I agree with TheDonk. PSO didn't get what they ordered. What is there to discuss?

We were ready to provide him what he ordered. If he didnt sent any material to be redone and instead his translations manager said the rest of content is better and we will send docs if they need to be revised, it's completely his fault that he deducted amount from my invoice. Check out the emails. Gotta go now.

This is exactly what is done in many industries. In lot's of other industries buyers simply do not accept and do not pay for work that is done below standards. I'm not sure what the breakdown per language was, but PSO should pay for some portion of the Russian translations if they are using them. You can't accept something, and still not pay for it. So, if they are able to use 60% of what they've received, they should pay accordingly.

PSO should have had people to check the work simply because that's what a smart company does, but it's still not their responsibility to tell the translator everything that is wrong. If they say "it's screwed up, fix it" then the translator should've hired people to redo the work properly. Did the translator offer to pay for time spent by PSO to proofread? No, it was the job of the translator to do that and he shouldn't expect it from his client.

If I spent well over $100,000 for translation services you better damn well get it done right without me having to point out thousands of little corrections.

With over 1 million words, I'm sure that's what we're talking about.

Seriously, have you ever had translations done? Have you ever even described the same thing as another person? Is your description "higher quality" than the other persons? (LOL, have you ever seen a thread on Digital Point where somebody calls their websites "high quality"!)

And then of course the point is just silly as the translator offered to correct anything they complained about, but they sent nothing. That is all that matters.

Even if PSO received totally blank pages they have no leg to stand on since they refused the offer to correct the "problem".

Name one, then name one where an enormous amount of work is done in advance of payment, then the client refuses to pay, then refuses to send any evidence of the problem so the contractor can address and fix the issue.

C'mon, this is not standard practice in anything, except slavery I suppose.

The core of the problem here is the translators key experience is dealing with Party where something like this would never happen. His experience led him to adopt an overly trusting "do the work in advance" model, which sadly is not something very wise in the cynical poker industry.
