Default Am I doing anything wrong?

I have had my site up for just over 4 months now and progress has been good. Not making a lot of money (not enough to get paid for anyway) at the moment but I'm hopeful.

However, I am getting no traffic at all from google. My site is indexed but it comes no where near in searching distance of the results pages for anything. I am in the process of adding **** tags but I've heard that this has no effect on ranking in google. Even if it did, I don't think it would make my site leap a few hundred pages up in the result pages.

I know a little about SEO and I like to think that the pages are optimized pretty well. I'm #1 in msn for a number of keywords but nothing whatsoever for google and I would like to know if I'm making any obvious mistakes.

Have I just got to sit tight and wait?

You might be trying to rank for too competitive keywords .

I have been going to google tools and using a competitive keyword than doing a search for all other keywords that are related. Than you can pick and choose through the list and see which ones were used the most for the previous month. Not sure if this is right or not but that's what I am doing.

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal Try that and see if it helps.

Run a Google for:

site:http://www.thepokerbank.com

Tons of your pages are buried in Google's supplemental results which means they will probably never achieve good rankings as long as they are supplemental.

Also, you aren't re-directing your non-www version of the site to the www version of the site, which may make lots of pages appear to contain duplicate content. Search around this forum for information on setting up a 301 re-direct in your .htaccess file for help on that one.

That's a start on some problems.

How do I go about getting my pages out of the supplemental results? Also google has indexed about 1/6 of my site, and some of these pages that appear no longer exist because I made a change to all of the html files about a month ago. It seems as if my site is getting crawled very rarely, so new pages and changes will not be picked up for weeks/months.

EDIT: Thanks for the 301 redirect tip, was easier than I expected it to be.

MSN is wiered, not sure about others here but when we first launched some of our sites they imediately shot to the top of MSN. But it seemed like about the time we started ranking well in Google our sites all but dropped out of existance in MSN.

IMO ranking well in MSN is bad, once you disappear in MSN you will start getting traffic lol.

Get links to ALL of the pages you want in the SERPs. Links to just the hompeage are gonna leave many of your site's pages in the supplemental results.

Also if you're posting a ton of content and you don't get links to the pages within a decent amount of time, there's a possibility this could hurt your results in Google.

Pages linked from your homepage are always good. But you also need inbound links from other websites (especially good authority sites) to help your pages rank better.
