Where do I get legal images from?
I want pictures of poker players. There are lots of famous ones, aswell as not so famous ones. I would like to have an archive of some players, and discuss my view about them. Having a picture of them is critical, however I believ if i just copied/pasted pics from cardplayer/ hendon mob/ google etc... I could get screwed later on when ppl actually visit my site.
any suggestions?
Also, i may want pictures of specific casinos in vegas. how would i go about this?
can i put a disclaimer saying "all pictures are property of card player.com ?""
thanks.

The best way would be to grab a camera and hit up the WSOP in Vegas. You'll get all the pictures you need.
Otherwise I'm not sure. I agree that using images of players is a little unethical if you just steal them. You never know.
Good luck and let us know if you find anything

I've gone through all of this. It's illegal to use any of their pictures actually. One of the places i found is http://www.poker-images.com/ but their pictures are often expensive...As losercore said, hit the WSOP and get a picture with every pro. It will probably cost the same as getting everyone's pictures from poker-images.com

Who knows. All I know is if I took pictures of the WSOP that included Jamie Gold and put them on my site. I would watermark them with my logo. Since that is not the case with that site, it is hard to know if this guy lives in Vegas and just went by there with a camera snapping pictures and does not care if people rip him off. None of those look like a pro photographer took them, although some are pretty good.

How do you figure this? If that were the case then every celebrity magazine and tabloid publication would be breaking the law.
Essentially this is what applies when it comes to pictures that YOU have taken:
If you are using their images for editorial purposes, it's usually okay to use them without permission.
If you are using photos with them for advertising, you need their permission. People have a right to profit, and exclude someone else from profiting on their photograph or likeness. This right continues after their death and is given to their heirs.
Remember, if you are the picture taker YOU are the copyright holder of that picture. If you "borrow" pictures from other sites then in effect you are stealing content.
You can always try to contact their publicist or the players themselves asking for a pic to use too!

not sure if istockphoto.com may have some. They have thousands of images for very cheap.

so if im writing an article about jonny chan, I can go on gogle images, find a picture, save it onto my server, and put it into my article? After all, Im not useing it for $, just to let ppl know what he looks like.
would I get hunted down for this if my site was fairly popular?
