Looks like I can place a newspaper ad here locally for about $160 (business card size) in either the Entertainment or Sports section.
Has anyone done this before, and what were your results?

Thanks!

I haven't run in a newspaper, but banner advertising for me has gotten more clickthrus on sports related sites than entertainment.

I would go with sports.

First of all, there is established sports gambling, so poker is related in that manner.

Secondly, men read sports, and predominantly men play poker! And guys who read sports pages are usually on the macho rather than weedy end, and more likely to fancy playing poker, especially if you blurb some challenge like: "Can you take the poker challenge!" or something like that!

Without a doubt sports.

Good call gentlemen, I think sports is the way to go for sure. Now if I have a small space what would the best ad look like. I am thinking black and white so just text or a party poker logo?

Also, I am creating my website right now. I live in Missouri and am on the state like to 4 other states where I live. So I registered 4statepoker.com (catchy?)

Thanks and keep those suggestions coming my way!

If your town has a free weekly newspaper with classified advertising on its backpage, like the Dallas Observer or the Fort Worth Weekly, the advertising on the backpage is excellent exposure. I did very well promoting Party Poker for a while that way.

While my natural reaction would be sports as well, discuss specific placement, and then decide. If you are RHS (right hand side) in Entertainment but bottom LHS in sports, it might be worthwhile putting it in Entertainment.

What about the Front Page? It's what I'd go for...

I am also looking at putting an ad in a local paper. What does everyone recommend, posting your bonus code with the site or posting an add to your website? Has anyone had success with any of these?

ICISIC

I would not suggest posting your Bonus Code in a paper - rather focus on getting yourself traffic to your site (make sure it is an easy to remember name)...
