Default Worth upgrading monitor?

I have a very good CRT monitor (19").

Debating about upgrading to a 22" LCD widescreen.

Price is about $300 Cdn.

Is this upgrade worth it? Anyone have any constructive input?

Also, wondering if there will be any VIDEO CARD issues? I have a RADEON 9500 PRO - bought about 3 years ago.

Thanks!

I have a 22 inch HP monitor and a 21 inch LCD monitor for dual display. Having an LCD Flat screen monitor is a must. They are much easier on the eyes and is just a lot more crisp in general. You will notice that the colours might not be a bright, but big deal.

The wide screen is defintely a bonus. I never liked it at first but once you get use to it, ugh you can't even describe how much better it really is. You can have a msn chat and have a web browser up beside it with tons of room.

I would definitely get the new monitor if I were you. Infact, I'm telling you to get 2 of them and run on dual display. You won't regret it!

I doubt you will have any issues with your video card for just the one monitor. You might want to look into a bit deeper if you want to go with dual display.

Yea - once you use Dual display monitors you'll wonder how you ever managed before.

Especially for the type of work we do being able to have one program on one screen and another on the other really saves time, switching between windows.

That Radeon was a smokin' vid card a few years ago

One thing to look for is...
Does your vid card have a DVI Out?
Some LCD's have both Analog & DVI (Digital) plugs & most new LCD monitors only have a DVI plug
You want DVI if possible!

If your card doesn't have a DVI Out & you want to make it work now with your existing card??
Get a monitor with both Analog & DVI for future compatibilty.

I'm running a 20" Samsung widescreen & liked it alot better than the same monitor in 22". The 20 is a lot crisper than the 22.

Check http://www.newegg.com before you buy too.

cheers

Thanks guys!

I bought the 22" Samsung Widescreen 226BW - great monitor!

I love it. I am finally back to doing more work on my desktop than my laptop! Girlfriend loves it too.

And, it has both VGA and DVI - DVI is sweet. My video card is doing a great job working with it smoothly.

I definitely love it and can recommend it to anyone with an older CRT.
