Default Bar tournaments

Bar tournaments
Hi I want to try and make some poker tournaments in my local bars. But I need some info and advice.
Has anyone played in a bar tournament or organized one?
I have never played one or organized it. So I am hoping to get some advice on how things are run or ideas.
If I can get a bar to allow me to run a tournament how will I attract players?
What benefits will the bar owner get by hosting a poker tournament?
Thanks for your opinions and ideas

First thing you need to check is if it is legal to play tournaments like that. In a lot countries you need some kind of license to do that. In others (like our lovely sweden) you are only allowed to play for small stakes in closed groups. The bar owner, if illegal, can get legal problems... if it is legal he could get some new customers or you could split the fee with him/her.

Second; Use a laptop and download a software for hosting tournaments. There are different ones (but i do not have a link). Then you get the tournament structure up on the wall so everybody can see the limits, the number of players still in and the avarage stack.

If you want to be professional about it you should have one or several dealers.

It is not hard but it takes som preperations to do it right.

*Disclaimer - I profit from these

We've created a host of products for people running poker leagues as we've ran one for a few years and have needed these solutions ourselves. They include a tournament director training course, a poker dealing course and a leaderboard and points manager that tracks and displays points on your website (our ours if you don't have one etc..).

Not sure about Canada, but where we are at as long as there are no requirements for entry, you're good to go.

I am in Ontario. We played weekly at the legion for almost a year, it was great we would go downstairs to the members area. Than we were told that we could no longer be able to play there because of the Ontario Lottery Gaming Commission regulates the gaming within this province, and unless the legion was to apply and recieve a license for gambling we would have to find somewhere else to go. * am I still bitter ...hell ya*

Anyway the license from my understanding isnt exactly cheap, plus they can deny you.

Just so you understand the legion was not taking anything from the pot, they were happy to have us there obv the bar sales. The OLGC does not care if there is a rake/fee taken or not. They are only concerned about the permit that sits on the wall.

So for the last 6 mths now I have 15+ people at my house every Monday night for cards
