Default How to manage league points

Hey,

This is something that could have more to do with maths than affiliating.

I am setting up a league for 4 countries, each will have a team and the number of players on each team will differ each week.

How could the points be managed so each team has an equal opportunity, even if the number of players on their teams differ?

I'm sure the equation isn't too hard, but maths was never my strongest point

Hopefully someone here has run something similar and can help for this and even give some tips on running the actual league, I haven't run anything like this myself yet.

Thanks

Hey John,

While I don't have the formula for you to determine your league points, you can use poker league software to manage your points and display them to your league. I haven't set up anything quite along those lines above.

If you want to give more detailed info I can give some suggestions. (IE are the teams competing in the same tourney against one another, or just each playing in different tournaments (such as 180 man stars sng's) and which ever team has the highest finishing player earns points??? Need more details on how you see this working.

As far as Poker League Software goes, you can sign up for a free account and I'll help you get your league set up within the software.

If you have specific questions you can PM me or post them in the Poker League Software forum (down near the bottom of the main forum page here on PAW).

I'm not sure that this is what you are asking but I'll give it a go anyway.

Simple example:
Team A - 10 players
Team B - 5 players
15 players in total

There are twice as many players in A than in B, therefore any points won by team B will be doubled.

All you have to do is divide the number of players in the bigger team by the number of players in the smaller team to find the coefficient (number to multiply the points by) of the points for the team with the diadvantage.

e.g 10/5 = 2, therefore points won by players in the team with 5 should have any points they won multiplied by two.

Practical example:
Team A - 8
Team B - 17

You intend to give 3 points to 3rd, 5 points the 2nd and 10 points to 1st.

The final 3 ends up being
1st - A player
2nd - B player
3rd - A player

Now because Team A was at a disadvantage, we have to multiply their results by a coefficient to make them fair. The coefficient being 17/8 = 2.125, so...

1st - Team B = 10
2nd - Team A = 5*2.125 = 10.625 (11)
3rd - Team A = 3*2.125 = 6.375 (6)

So overall Team B gets 10 points and Team A win with 17 points

Just wrote a really long reply and it was wiped!

In short, thanks very much ThePokerBank, you got it spot on.

I will have 3 teams playing in my own buyin and freeroll tournaments and the points will be from a league of both.

I looked at your software J S but it didn't look like it could manage this for the team points.

Thanks very much for the help

Saying that, I wonder if PAW really did GPWA if you take into account the fact that GPWA had less players than we did. The totals were calculated by simply adding up the points each team had, but we would need to multiply their points by the correct number to make it fair.

Does anyone still have the results?
