Default WSOP Promotions ... how effective are they?

Hi all,

First post here on PAW (insert noob joke here). I'm a writer for Casino City and the GPWA, so I've been surfing the forums here for awhile. Finally signed up this morning.

I'm working on a story about how affiliates and affiliate programs use the WSOP as a marketing tool.

Do any of the affiliate programs you work with have special WSOP promotions (freerolls, special satellite offers, etc.)?

How effective have those programs been in getting players to those sites? Do those players stay? Or do they just sign up for the WSOP promotion and go away?

Not a complete list of questions, but you can see where I'm going with this ...

Send me a PM if this applies to you and you are interested in being interviewed an quoted in a story.

Thanks for your help,
Aaron

After doing a little legwork, it seems the angle on this story might actually be the changing nature of these promotions due to Harrah's policy (not accepting third party registrations from poker sites that accept US players).

Anyone notice a big change in the number of WSOP promotions that affiliate programs are offering? Again, PM me if you'd like to do an interview.

Thanks again for your help!
Aaron

If you read further into Harrah's policy they have technically not accepted 3rd party registrations from poker sites that accept US players for 3 years now, but from my understanding PokerStars and Full tilt partner up with some other company (sorry i forget the name) to do the player registrations.

Unfortunately I cannot promote poker rooms on my largest website psmoney.com so I can't comment on WSOP promo's, but more people than ever are buying and selling W$ (which is used for WSOP satellites).

Hi Aaron,

I think it depends on the WSOP promotion that the poker room is offering. For instance, Sunpoker went with a MPP race, (player points), over a period of time and will just give away 100 WSOP seats to the top 100 MPP earners over a period of 6 months. The www.OneSickPromo.com did a great job of attracting new players and as a race, does a nice job of retention.

I have seen many WSOP promotions offer a series of qualifiers in order to get to a final in order to get to the WSOP. Those can work as well.

Mark
