Press Releases? Anybody done them?

Hi there, I looking for some advice on PR's. I haven't done anything like it, but I am considdering it for a new site.

Is there anyone that can give me some advice on how to do this, and/or if it's effective?

There was a recent thread that was partially about PR's here. Theres a lot of good info there. I recently started using free press releases with one of the sites someone mentioned. It was quick and easy although I don't know about any results other than a backlink yet.

I was actually going to try Arrivenet last night, but the site loaded way too slow so I gave up. If anyone can recommend another one I would also appreciate it.

24 posts all in broken english saying the same thing. Ban stick please? I'll admit the english is so bad it's actually quite comical or at least was. Now it's just annoying.

A customer just today told me that PRweb is no longer allowing html in their submissions, with that in mind, what viable alternatives are out there that still let you dress up your release a bit, and are flexible enough to allow online gambling releases.

PRweb don't allow html but you can still put links in using their own code.

I've just done my first couple of press releases on PRweb - not sure if the money would have been better spent on links or something else at the mo' (did one really quickly to get it up that day and managed to knock my own page off G for duplicate content - duh).

Gonna try the free / cheaper ones next so I'll report back when I've got some results through - PRweb seems v expensive for what you get, but only time will tell.
