With all that I have been reading about press releases they seem like a very good thing. I just had one question though. When you end up getting hundreds of almost worthless links to your site doesn't that negatively affect your position in google?

I have been under the impression that getting so many mediocre links so fast is considered link spamming by Google and wil actually hurt you rather than help. If it really does hurt, how do you get around this? Do you just do a press release for another domain that redirects to your good affiliate site or what?

Thanks for any help.

Very good point. I don't do press releases so I don't have any experience on this, but your idea of a press release only domain is interesting. It seems to me though that a cautious, no-risk step is to have a press release link to a specific page on your domain, not the front page. That way if you get a penalty it is just a minor page that gets hit, and you can even just delete the minor page completely.

The age of your site has something to do with it too. If you launch a site on 7/26/2005, and you have 100 links on 7/27/2005, that's more likely to set off a filter than if you launch a site, build links gradually for a few months, then after establishing that people are talking about and linking to your site, pick up a bunch of links off a press release.

The advice about linking to a page on your site instead of to the main URL is excellent advice too.

Is it possible to redirect a single page in your site to your front page?

Yes, it is possible to do, but ...

If your idea is to fool the SE spiders, it wouldn't work because they'd follow the redirect too.

It's best to create the press release landing page and put your affiliate offer(s) on it.

Another option is to use a 3-column blog theme, you can see mine as an example, to ensure that your banners will show up on the press release landing page (although you should focus it to one online poker room and include a text link).

For example, create a press release about how your website is partnering with Paradise Poker to present the World's First Million Dollar Freeroll and include a description of the promotion. Your press release landing page on your site would include more information about Paradise Poker and the promotion, including your affiliate links.

Best of luck to you travisand,

Jason
