Default Launching new sites

Curious over the difference in opinions when launching a new site.

If you have a reason behind it can you post why

I choose adding. Not a lot of thoughts behind. I even let half build sites, stay up, if theyre not important to the company, for longer periods, before theyre finished.

i tell my self its to get the backlink to more important sites instantly, but we actually dont have seo knowledge enough to know the value of this. it might be a leak, we should look into getting fixed.

watch out for scrapers who get your content on a blog before you get it indexed. If it was me, I would throw up the basics & add on, indexing the pages as I go.

At least try and finish up the more important content first and make sure it's up before launch (initial news reports, room reviews, etc), and have something that might stick out to keep people coming back as you continue to add more to it over the coming weeks.

Personally, I find it difficult to put up a site that is unfinished. I create the original design based on lot's of different features, and the layout is all based upon what I want in there. I don't use other people's templates or anything like that. Everything I do is created from scratch with Photoshop which makes it more difficult than just choosing a template, sticking info on there and firing it up. On previous sites, I've built as I go, but then it seems that I'm doing constant redesigns and redoing work over and over.

For indexing purposes, I build a very small site and don't link to any of the 'real' pages. When the site is ready to go, then I just change the index page to the new one and it's off and running. I'm not sure from an SEO standpoint if this is hurting me at all, but so far it's worked for me. I have a site I've been working on for a while now, but I think it'll surprise people and I also won't be giving away any secrets along the way. There's a certain 'tiger in the tall grass' idea I like which helps me stay motivated. Until I get everything done I can't unleash the site, so I work harder to get it all done. When I've put up a working but (to me) unfinished site, I find it harder to sit down and spend the time to get those other features finished. Also, I'm a perfectionist to an admittedly ridiculous point, so I don't want anyone to see things that aren't the way I want them. Plus, it pains me to hear people say "oh, this doesn't work right" or "you should do this and that", when I already know those things need to get done. Something from my childhood probably, lol.

When launching a new site, I try and get as much content as I can before getting the design, and then build it as best as I can with what I have. Then when its pretty respectable (but not quite finished), I'll upload it and get it indexed in Google to help get it in the mix. I won't go about promoting it and getting traffic until I am completely comforatable with the way it looks/works and there are no broken links or empty links. So yeah, I don't want anyone to see a half-assed site, but then again I want to get the ball rolling in terms of getting the site to rank well in Google.

Thats just the way I go, and I only do it that way because I don't know any better at the moment.

I'm just no good at building offline, the process confuses me, I create a page, upload it, tweak it till i like it, then start the next one.. for a great example fliprealhouses is my lil 'project' i've torn it down and started over more times than I can count!

I started something similar once wasn't happy with it, and sold that.. now here I am again, never going to be happy with that site :P Yet still building online as I go :P

I don't build offline, either, but I do block everything in a robots.txt file. I don't do anything stupid like announce my site on forums or let anyone see it until I have some good original content up (50 pages or so). Then I change the robots.txt file and start getting links.

Once the spiders start coming in, I update the site consistently and index page by page, as ed mentioned, and try to stay constant. Some sites get updated daily, some weekly, some monthly.
