as far as i know almost all (well ages ago i checked around 5 top rooms and they all overwrite) cardrooms overwrite any old cookies with the last one thats generated.

So this is how cardrooms want it and i too have been told by "cardrooms", "did your player clear his cookies" when questioning a signup

If it wasnt like that then all sites would be cookie stuffing like sharkscope.com

edit: just asked 2 AM who were on msn (bodog and betus.com) and both said they use the last cookie and googled partypoker cookie terms and that site said they use the last cookie

so 3 of 3 so far

It'll be 3 of 3 when I've personally tested them & seen that result with my own eyes!
I'm "assuming & trusting" absolutely nothing this time around.

Off topic, but related...
What about the Firefox tracking snafu of old?
Never did hear a conclusion on that one?

I think my fancy schmancy xhtml1.1 & UTF-8 character encodings cost me some big bucks last time around too?
Taking some precautions there this time also.
M$/IE based solutions + standards based solutions always seem to = trouble lol
I was wondering if anyone with translated pages has seen anything weird?
I'm fairly certain that foreign characters require a UTF-8 charset? not ISO-8859-1 or Wins 1252 whatever.

well i dont think my 2 affiliate managers are lying (why would they) so i'd take there word to the bank

Edit: i just checked Bodog myself and my AM was correct (just checked my bodog cookie and it had my affiliate referal code in it as i must have clicked on my bodog links hundreds of times - then i just strolled over to another site and clicked their banner, then checked my cookie and it had been replace / over written with there referral id)

"the affiliate id is reset to blank"

No I wasn't saying that -- although Darko is saying any visit creates a new cokie.

I was merely pointing out that cardrooms give you a cookie themselves if you visit the site directly via a typein or search engine (again obviously there could be exceptions). So, if all industry tracking were last referal, of course they would also give you a cookie of their own via direct type in or search referal.

I'm not really commenting on how some or all do it now. I'm just pointing out that what several people are advocating here would lead to affiliates as a group losing all referals to cardrooms when the last thing a player does is visit the site via a typein or search engine, regardless of what affiliate that player might have visited the site from five minutes before.

"Your other point about Google earning money by being the last affiliate, however, is complete and utter crap to put it bluntly."

Google isn't an affiliate of the cardrooms, that's silly. The cardrooms themselves benefit from Google referals. The cardrooms look at Google referals similar to typeins, as they should. The big cardrooms spend millions on search marketing. It's probably more important than affiliate marketing to some of their bottom lines.

Google is not an affiliate and will never include affiliate links in its search results. The old cookie stands. Google will therefore never get paid for the 'conversion' if you could call it that, but the affiliate whose cookie is stored will.
I don't think you quite understand what he was saying on this issue. Edit: PPP answered it already.

This is a great discussion, but all members need to keep it from a personal level. I would love to see this go on for a couple more pages as a roundtable discussion.

Darko has a start on a chart.

Need to check IE & FF for each room, 2-3 per should be trustworthy?

Need a mini wiki

The cookie that is set is a different cookie than the affiliate cookie, and doesn't overwrite the previous affiliate's cookie.

When i did it with bodog it was not an additional cookie and it DID overwirte the affiliate cookie

before i had 1 cookie from bodoglife and in the middle of it, it says referral id xxxxxxx which was my affiliate id

Then i visited bodog from another site...

so i checked my cookies - i still have just 1 cookie from bodoglife and the referral id now had another code (which was the site i just clicked a bodog link from)

edit: Yes GregK, it would be great if we can form a list - we only need to ask out affiliate managers - as they would have no reason to mislead about this.

Well for the list, i have asked

Bodog - Last Visit (and tested)
Betus - Last Visit

CakePoker - First Visit
Absolute Poker First Visit (i asked shenaz and she said she was 99% sure that Absolute uses First cookie...Just for info Shenaz used to work for AP)

But did you visit via an affiliate or via google? And what happens if you type in bodoglife.com? Does it overwrite with a "blank"?
