Hey haynesey,

Wow..... the site design is simply stunning, very professional looking and fast loading.

Now this is a site with the potential to go far.

My recommendations: and I don't mean to sound harsh but....

When I land on the homepage my eyes are drawn more to the news updates and advertisements, that takes up 2/5 of the page width, instead of your opening content.

Remember you only have a few seconds to convince me that your site is some how different from all the rest.

The first line.... and in font smaller than your nav link text:

Quote:
PokerPotz.Com is a poker site dedicated to the world's most popular form of poker, texas holdem.
It just doesn't grab me and I may not even read beyond that point.

I'm a busy man with hundreds of other poker sites I will check out with just a few clicks of my mouse.

What makes your site so special?

What can you do for me?

How about an eye grabbing headline like:

Welcome To PokerPotz.Com

"The Friendly Online Poker Community Dedicated To Teaching You How To Win At Texas Holdem"

Join Us Today And Learn How To Rake In More.... And Bigger Pots Tomorrow!

Second line.... continued from the first in very small font:

Quote:
We hope our strategy articles will provide you with enough knowledge to make you a profitable poker player whether you plan on playing the game live at a casino or online from the comfort of your home.
You hope?..... it sounds like you are unsure of your strategy articles.

I know this sounds like a minor detail but in the the minds of web-surfing poker players seeing your homepage for the first time....is it minor?

How about:

Our strategy articles have provided countless new players with the knowledge they needed to become more profitable at the online tables and their local casinos.

Meet Some Of The PokerPotz Elite!

Hi haynesey,

Your articles on winning SNG's totaly turned my game around! I've been killing the $20 SNG's over at PokerStars for the last 2 months......

Thanks again for the great advice and I look forward to reading your insightful strategy posts in the forums every weekend,

Dave from Victoria B.C Canada

Don't tell me you may be able to improve my poker results.

Tell me you have the answers to my poker playing problems and provide me some proof!

Do that and I will become your customer. Or at least I'll give you a chance. You have to sell you site.....and yourself.

And you know what my next recommendation is:

Give your site visitors some very compelling reasons to come back again by joining your community.

You can do this with a forum, a newsletter or ezine, giving away freebie strategy ebooks.......... use your imagination.

Building a group of dedicated fans is the key to steady and growing online income for your site.

Sure, you need to spend a lot of time getting more traffic to your site but if you're not squeezing every penny out of your existing traffic it's being wasted.

Again, it's a fantastic looking poker site haynesey with huge potential.

Very, very nice work.... just get to squeezing max sign up out of it and you'll make a killing.

I like it, looks good. Maybe get a favicon in the future, and the blue read more links under the news updates are kinda harsh on my eyes fwiw. Good luck on the new site!

Dave - I love when you review the sites because you always explain in alot of detail to get people to think outside the box. even if it doesn't directly apply to the person reading it...you give alot of insight to people like myself. Great review!

I agree 100%...I nominate Dave as Site Reviewer of the Year!

......

I love the site haynesey...the only thing I could find was the reviews are kinda dull...It's more of a personal preference but I like to see screen shots...tables with bonus data...maybe a rating system...i would also use more links in it....ect.....great work on the design!

Amazing review Dave. Just implemented some home page changes. Is that heading in the right direction dave? I am going to set up a newsletter in the coming weeks and hopefully a forum for the site as well, but need to pick up some more traffic first as there is nothing better then a dead forum.
Thanks for the great advice,
Haynesey
