Has anyone done anything with MySpace? I ask for a few reasons.. bk when I first started, I signed up for one of those MySpace groups, well a few hundred people joined, but I really dont think they have ever been back to the group.. and I couldnt really get any banners on the page, so I pretty much added my new url and junked it..

Also.. I read about the cute girls blog.. page 3 or so of this thread. . . Well Myspace is famous for girls using pix that aren't their own, so they have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of friends, and can plaster lil advertizements all over myspace, Noone seems to call it spam, as long as you flirt first! LOL

I havent done much along the lines of advertizing my sites on myspace but I am curious as to what others have tried!

Want to see your web site name on TV for free??

ok well not quite TV but web cams there are hundreds of live web cams out there ready for some live spamming

take this site for example

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/

I'm thinking of paying someone to stand around outside this shop for a few hours either holding a sign or wearing a t-shirt.

This is double bubble baby, as you get to advertise to the world via this busy live web cam feed plus the thousands of shoppers walking buy. I could even pay him a little extra to hand out flyers

Search on the web site to see if you can find a web cam near you and let me know how you get on.

P.S I got this idea from when my girlfriend went to new york, she rang me on her cell phone and I could see her live on the web cam.. I have just been looking at this web cam again and noticed in the space of about 5 minutes many people doing the same thing. This really is a great idea, you'll be getting people off the street calling friends etc and then BAMM they see your URL.

** ok my mind is spinning up a storm now. People will be taking screen caps of their buddies whilst watching them on the live web cam, these screen caps will be added to blogs and family web sites. All the time your URL is still in the background.

Anyone know if I can place ads in newspapers, as online poker is in such a grey are in terms of its legality etc.. Maybe something like the following ?

POKER PLAYERS - $25 FREE to try out online poker at PartyPoker.com

Checkout my website - http://www.vegaspokerinsider.com

I play poker online at Party Poker because you can play
against the largest pool of first time players. Texas Hold em,
Omaha, Tournaments. You can even win seats to the 2006
World Series of Poker. Right now they have a special
promotion. Go to http://www.PartyPoker.com and If you register using
the bonus code: PARTYPLAY25
they automatically add $25 to your first deposit.
TIP Friday and Saturday nights I win the most
because most players just got paid, they tend to gamble
more, and many are drinking etc. ( offer good until 04/30/06 )

sorry, in response to akima2000,
Newspaper adds are extremely expensive, even local ones. I think if you have that kind of money to spend it should be spent online, If I saw your add in my local newspaper I would either not pay any atention or google party poker, which is not gonna do you any good.

Regarding Bumper Stickers etc. can it be classed as vandalism?

e.g big companies pay to advertise on bus shelters. If i stick a sticker on for free they wont be happy about it, and I may end up getting hassle from the council about it claiming its vandalism and the likes.

That's a fine line in respect to bumper stickers. If it were me I would just buy the advertising on the bench at the bus stop. Generally if it is a bulletin board or something at a college or building I am not too worried though.

Fliers wouldn't even be that bad, but stickers can be a bitch to get off and will piss people off a lot more if you are sticking them everywhere.

Advertise off-line and online a local or regional (city or state) online championship tournament event.

Call it "'YourCity' Online Poker Championship Event #1" or "Annual 'YourCity' Online Poker Championship"

Get people to come to your website (www.yourcitypokerchampionship.com) by means of word of mouth, off-line and online advertising.

Your website can have all the tournament details and where to signup. You can advertise the event by saying the estimated prize pool will be up to $100,000 or more. Of course you will have fine print saying the prize pool will be based on the amount of entries.

This could be done using PokerStars. All you have to do is create a Private Tournament and choose the entry fee, either $200.00 + $15 or $500.00 + $30. PokerStars pays you a referral when a player reaches 100 FPP, so by doing a $200.00 event you would only be 25 FPP off from making your commission. If the tournament is $500.00 with a $30.00 tournament fee then you are assured of your commission ($30.00 in tournament fees = 150 FPP).

I think a good strategy would be to get as many friends and family as you can to join first, before advertising. This will create a base of players and create interest. You can even invite your online friends too, even if they already have accounts at PS.

Aside from online marketing there are many ways of promoting this event:

Flyers
Call in radio shows
Newspaper ads
Bumper stickers
Car decal advertising
Business cards
Word of mouth

Potential Commissions:
(Based on new player signups and signups in one calendar month)

25 Players = $2,750.00
50 Player = $7,500.00
100 Players = $22,500.00
200 Players = $55,000.00
500 Players = $150,000.00

Questions:

Would PS allow this?
Does PS count qualifying FPP for private tournaments?
Is PS the place to do this?
What would a good tournament entry fee be? Is $200 or $500 too much?
Is this a good idea and worth pursuing?

Another idea for someone who is good with a video camera would be to make a series of videos and post them up on sites like youtube and metacafe. If you can make a good quality video that is enjoyable to watch with a little spam in it, it could bring you lots of traffic.

This is much harder than you would think. I have trouble getting 20 players to play in these when I have a freeroll. I have them deposit $20 to play in the freeroll, then I usually put up a certain amount of money like $300-$500.

Ive been getting about 15 players per time, and I have a forum of over 240 players that I can contact to play.

dont worry about using radio/flyers/tv ads. MySpace marketing will be easier, more effective and cheaper.
