Funny that you mention magazines.

I was at the grocery store yesterday (With a pocket full of business cards with my site url and bonus codes on it). After putting one in each poker chip set, I walked by the magazine rack, and thought maybe they would have cardplayer magazine.

They didn't, but I decided I would stick one in each of the Golf magazines, Mens (FHM, Maxim etc...), and Fantasy Football magaines. I don't know if this will be worthwile or not, I guess we will see.

I have recently become an affiliate and my method for future advertising will be discount cards/phone cards. I sell those as well. The Discount/phone card I can put my logo on. I will be giving these away to my subagents and poker fanitics I meet while i'm out having a bit of fun myself They work as my business card and whoever I will give them too also can take advantage of discounts at businesses listed in our company directory and load the card to use to make phone calls at competative calling rates.....so I kill two birds with one stone advertising both of my businesses.

I also have a flyer that I hand out with these discount cards/phone cards and I sell advertising space on that flyer to businesses in my area provided they give a discount to card holders I give the card too......I give the card free so businesses advertising on the flyer are happy that they know their ad is seen, i'm happy because i'm gaining advertisers $$$ and giving something away for free where people can benefit from it and its awesome advertising for me of course.

As for the young crowd, a few of the bars around here have been receptive to letting my hang a nice looking card holder on the wall that you see right when coming out of the bathroom.

Another idea to market to the bar going crowd is to have your URL on coasters, beer mugs, pretty much anything seen over and over by people. Most bars are more than happy to let you buy their pint glasses for them, and it is really great advertising.
Ok, so how are you going about as far as approaching the manager or owner of these bars or any store? What are you offering them in return?

Thanks!!

Hola - one half of the PokerLizard team here. First time reader, first time posting -great forum. Thanks for the invite, Jeremy!

We've done a little of the local bar deal, and got them to post our sign by splitting some cases of chips with the owner (at our reduced rate, of course) so he has something extra to giveaway during his poker nights. He gets a nice draw for new players at a nice price, and we get some play, since the chipsets are "provided by PokerLizard.com."

That said, this particular bar has been pretty weak for signups - most everyone is online-averse. Think we need some more face time to put them at ease...

Good luck.

Hey Welcome Lagarto,

PokerLizard.com is awesome and has some killer interviews.

Also one thing I have been doing lately is in our area the March of Dimes has paper shaped pumpkins at almost every restaraunt and gas station. For a $1 donation you can buy one of these and it is displayed at the gas station or restaraunt.

You guessed it, I but about 5 of these every time I see a place like this and I have a pink neon marker that I use to write my url on the paper pumkins. This way they stand out amongst all the others hanging on the wall.

This is dirt cheap advertising for my local niche and I'm certain it has drawn a few visitiors to my site.

Hey, sorry for taking so long to get back..been crazy lately.

Actually, I do know those guys. Kevin here, Reid runs the site with me, and Joel tagged along to help at WSOP.

Did we cross paths in the press room or media event??

I don't recall where we met specifically. May have been the media event, though I busted out early.

I mostly remember that you guys had really cool black business cards and were always in a hurry to get some place.

Just wanted to say hello. Enjoy your site and articles. Keep up the good work!

Yep, that was us. The Media Event was a blast, except for the brutal blind structure that moved lightning fast. I did get to play some with Dick Van Patten, and then busted out Elvis, but didn't last much past the first break.

We're all planning on going again next year - you?
