Something new I have tried is "bluejacking". Although it rhymes with hacking, it has nothing to do with hacking and is not illegal.
Essentially I send a contact, whose name is the url of my website, via Bluetooth to those who are near me when I am waiting in line etc.
Bam, they get my URL, and it saves to their contact list/address book, so that they often see it, at least until they delete it.
Best of all it's free!

I prefer to hire freinds or at least people I know for two main reasons: the more important one is that I trust them and I know they won't screw me over, and secondly because I'd rather pay my freinds than some random people.
I have them do a variety of things, but mainly it involves TALKING to people about online poker and my sites and guide. They do pass out fliers or put up signs sometimes, but I have found that when they establish relationships with people it works much better. It is usually undercover as well. Like I will have freinds go to a bar, and pretend to strike up a conversation with people about online poker, but they actually are pitching my site. This is why it is effective, because my guys are advertising to people, but the people don't realize it. It had worked so well and gotten me probably over 1000 sign ups. Its kinda hard, you have to be good meeting people, but once you get the hang of it is great. We all just go to a bunch of bards, and then talk to 100s of people every night; the conversion rate is amazing.
Hopefully that will be of some help...

What type of prizes would you include on those scratch off cards. Cards, chips, $25 bonus is what I think of. Are anybody doing them as marketing. I would love some ideas of prizes that are fairly cheap to include.

What a great thread!!
These are some of the best, dumbest, greatest, stupidest, crazyest ideas I've ever heard. I love them. This is how Gorilla marketing is supposed to work!!
Just to add my 2 cents.
For bookmarks you can take a 120x600 banner from a poker site and insert your code or website on it and then print it out on nice paper or card stock and make bookmarks that way. It's cheap and easy!
One other place to put your bookmark in bookstores is in the travel section in books about Las Vegas. People looking there are probably thinking about Vegas and gambling.
If anyone here has adult sites or bikinis sites, gambling goes good with that customer base. I started putting free poker games on one of my bikini sites and got a few new players that way.
Another thing is to print a flyer and drive around putting it in peoples mail boxes. Postal regulations prohibit this, but everyone else does it and maybe you could put the flyer in their newspaper box or something.
I'm pretty new to gambling, but don't some of the poker sites give away free CDs with poker downloads on them? These could be given away to anyone that gives their email address.
Libraries do collect books and magazines. Turn in your old poker and gambling magazines with your bonus code written in them or whatever else you want. They're your books, so stick anything in them. Might be good for a few new players.
Barber shops are a great place to leave cards and flyers. The also have gambling magazines and you could leave your card in them. Also hospital waiting rooms. They keep their magazines forever and something stuck to a mag there will last a long time. Grocery stores usually have coupon racks that you can leave your flyer at. The store clecks are so dumb that they might not ever throw them away.
OK, that's my 2 cents. Please keep this thread going. It's Great!
