Default Mountain Biking

Usually I run every summer in a futile attempt to stay in shape. This summer however I have taken up mountain biking and honestly have fallen in love with it.

Since this is the cocktail lounge I wonder if anyone else is into biking.....

Today I committed to doing a 50 mile ride in June with my brother who is a hardcore athlete. Anyone ever ridden this far, and have any advice? Not even sure what to expect as my longest ride so far is only 15 miles.

If you have never biked though, I highly recommend it. Especially if you have a state park or somewhere nice to ride.

Default mountain biking

hi Jeremy

I once did 100 miles on a cheap mountain bike on fat tyres on the roads

for a bet with my neighbour (lots of uphills included in the bet)

he was a hardcore road biker - and said it couldnt be done on a bog standard heavy cheap mountain bike

In fairness it nearly killed me - I went on the hotest day of the year - wearing jeans, rugby shirt & hiking boots, no water and just shear determination to prove him wrong - Dumbass but I did it.

So

no1 tip is take some water

no2 if you dont take water and cant buy water - DONT BUY lemonade - it makes you feel worse (alot worse)

no3 roasted peanuts dont seem to replace your salt like salted peanuts do - they just turn your mouth into concrete

no4 if you start to helucinate - you are clearly about to die of heat exaustion - so stop - dont carry on and nearly get run over by lorries for the next 20 miles just to prove a point.

hope you have a good time - 50 miles should be a nice ride

cheers scrawnybob

Sounds great make sure you take a sodium replacement drink that is what you need as your body loses alot of salt when riding. High temperature will also increase your salt loss. I used to cycle in seville in spain where the temperature was 50 celcius you could never drink water on its own as you could easily pass out

I have been biking for years.
I own a Trek 20speed all aluminium bike.
The worst is in this time of biking you have many pothole and sometimes you can't see them.Make sure you have two tubes on hand.
The most inportent thing is the seat and Bell comes out with a great gel one and you can ride for miles.
Don't wear baggy stuff that will slow you down.
The best is State to State they are always making new trails for us bikers.
Good Luck & Ride Safe

Did you ever do that 50 mile ride Jeremy? Just got a bike today and hit the trails hard. I skipped the beginner trails and went straight to the hardcore trails, all I can say is I kicked major ass. I think i ended up doing around 10 miles.

Jeremy, please DO NOT post pics of you in biker shorts or any said spandex material during these rides. GL against your brother, though -- lol.
