Well linking to authority sites is always a good idea... it shows you're referencing high quality sources and also willing to send your visitors there. There's no immediate reward for doing so but I believe it will help your overall link profile.
I see a lot of the bigger websites linking in their footers and other pages to places like Wiki, DMOZ, Google, & Yahoo directory.
Obviously these are good "neighborhoods" to be linking to, there is no question about that. I am just wondering how much this actually helps in the big scheme of the SEO game. Is this like a virtual "ass kissing" to googlebot for example.
Any thoughts on this from the SEO geeks?
