Link exchange pages - which is best?

So..my links page is filling up and I'm thinking about separating it all out in categories. But I'm not sure if this is the best thing to do.

Would you rather have:-
Your link on a page 1 click from a sitewide link, but with lots of other links on it?
or
Your link on a page 2 clicks away from the sitewide link but with a maximum number of links (15 or so), plus a more targetted category heading?

Shoulda done an option for 'don't care - you decide', but can't work out how to change it now

I would pick the "1 link away" option because it should pass more PR since it gets PR direct from the rest of the site.

I would without a doubt prefer it 2 clicks away with a category more specific to my website. This would be a user specific preference as to what kind of revenue one is building a site towards.

I build towards making affiliate revenue and improving my position in the serps for specific keywords, thus a more targeted page is beneficial to me. PR is extremely overrated when it comes to getting backlinks. If I am trying to get a better ranking for "full tilt review" then I would much rather have a link from another full tilt review page with a pr1 or pr2 than a link from a general poker page with pr4 or pr3.

However, some people (a couple people on paw come to mind) build sites towards a "selling links model" so they would probably prefer links from higher pr pages.

This sounds like a good article for someone to write. Building sites towards different revenue models - affiliate revenue, prepaid advertisements from gambling sites, or link selling. Money can be made following either model, but one best know which model they are pursuing before they begin to build a site.

I would rather a link from a relevant page with less links on that page. There are a few people here who have great link pages and I wouldnt even call them links because the way they are built or at least come across as is a guide. They are well written and not based on promoting something but letting the reader know here is another great site and why.

I would go with Prenut here. I would rather a PR2 page targeted to my anchor with few links on it than a PR4 page with 50+ links. If we are just talking about PR here than wouldnt those pages with crap load of links actually pass off less PR to the 50 links than say a low key page? Wouldnt they also have a little more weight to them because they are relevant.
