Also, how do you know the people selling him the list have no right to do so??? Maybe he made an offer to a bankruptcy court how is trying to liquidate assets belonging to this online room, or perhaps a creditor was given the list in leiu of an outstanding debt. |
Maybe when players signed up the poker room disclaimer said, "We will not sell your information for any reason," just maybe?
PPP though is going all out on this one .

I have been on this forum for awhile and PPP is looking for an argument. Not once have I seen him actually agree with anybody. He looks for things to argue or disagree about. This is not the first or last time you will hear negativity from him. My guess is he searches this forum for ideas to argue against so he can somehow impress us with his knowledge. If you have an idea that PPP disagrees with, he will try to flatten you with his responses. He comes out like a know-it-all and really just ends up looking like a jerk.

Agred, immature uneducated response from PPP. While the "fine print" must be adheard to, while the company is in control of its assets, all bets are off when they lose control of that asset. No different than when you dont make the payments on your cars.....all of a sudden, (assuming there is a loan on it) different people now control your asset and can do anything they want with it.
The netteller arguement is stupid, one cant come along and take money out of your account, thats obviously stealing.
But on the other hand, sure they could sell all of that info but for the most part, it has no value.....so you buy my bank account number....you actually can market to me to get me to switch banks....."Tired of all the Wells Fargo fees...try Bank of America and get this free toaster...etc etc
There are tons of sites where you can pay to get peoples personal info...addresses and phone numbers are easily accessible....all for sale.
If you decide to put your info out there, you are at risk. I suggest you close your poker accounts and dont use the internet so you dont have to worry about this anymore.

Let's stop with the "stupid, immature, jerk, etc" posts. They don't benefit anyone here.
As far as buying a mailing list goes, there is a lot of risk vs reward in this situation. For one thing, if they're selling the mailing list to you, then they're probably also selling it to other people. Which means that people on that list are going to be receiving a lot of "marketing messages" (i.e. spam) besides yours. Which is going to result in low conversions if any.
For another thing, getting in trouble for spamming is a problem of major proportions. You can get into trouble with internet service providers, webhosts, and affiliate programs, all of which are going to cost you money in one way or another.
And yes, 99% of all sites agree not to sell your private information when you sign up with them. You shouldn't support anyone who would violate that agreement.
Stuff like this decreases the value of the internet for all its users. In the long run, that's bad for all of us.

There's two general directions to take in this business. One is to follow the rules, work smart and hard, and deliver honest, high-quality resources to people. The other is what we see many inexperienced people here advocate: break laws, steal content, spam, lie (like pretending to be a woman), and in general act like you have no vision beyond later this afternoon.
The latter way to go has a lot of devotees but the big majority of them share the common trait of being unsuccessful. Here we have a couple people who want to troll and being negative and pick fights on a message board. What a useless waste of time. If you want to do well in this business, such childishness has no upside.
And in this case, only someone without personal ethics would buy a mailing list from an unscupulous operator, and you would really have to be a fool too. For example, if you market from the Pokerspot email list, you will be discovered (since many people use unique emails with every poker sites) and you will very likely ruin your career (which again brings up the point that unethical people don't look for careers, they look to grub a penny in a few hours). Players, and successful affiliates and cardrooms want nothing to do with thieves and cheats.
Besides email addresses, cardrooms have bank information, Neteller information, home addresses, credit card numbers and so on (affiliates are even more at risk, which is why people here should be very concerned). Selling this information virtually always violates their terms and conditions, and common decency. That of course won't stop people without ethics, which means the rest of us need to.

This is a sad thread.
Everyone does what they need to do in order to gain success. There is no right way or wrong way. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a PartyRiches book, there wouldn't be a forum and there wouldn't be new ideas.
Lemme guess, the next thing that will be "wrong" will be dressing as a Pink Bunny?
Oh well....

"There is no right way or wrong way."
Exactly the point. You feel that way. I don't. Lying, stealing, cheating and plenty of other things are "the wrong way" both because they are unethical and because they fail miserably in a $$$$$ way.
Everyone can choose their own path, but the lying-cheating-losing path seems to not to allow that other people don't share their way to do things. You can voice your opinion. I voice mine. I think that is okay. You have to decide for yourself.

Define UNETHICAL.....
Some think gambling is unethical!
Sex before marriage?
Strip clubs?
I think this is a very hazy issue.

There's nothing hazy about this issue at all. When you tell someone you'll do something, then you don't do it, you've broken your word. This is fundamental to integrity.
Making and keeping promises, to yourself and to others, is the first step toward any real success in life. If Jeremy agreed to appear in a pink bunny costume, took Golden Palace's money, then didn't show up and play, then he would clearly be in the wrong.
When a casino or poker room agrees not to sell their players' information, then they've made a promise. They shouldn't break it. And you shouldn't be party to it if they do.
Everyone does what they need to do in order to gain success? Does this mean I can start robbing people at gunpoint in order to be successful?
