I wonder what implications this will have on the WSOP?

Hopefully something good!

I don't believe this line. I guess we will know soon enough.

As its a financial buyer (as opposed to a strategic buyer) who is keeping existing management in place, I don't think you'll see too many drastic changes. Also, keep in mind it will probably be at least nine months to a year until the deal closes so it should have no effect on next year's WSOP.

Agreed Res. Plus, I think the only big thing that could effect the WSOP next year is Harrah's refusal to accept online satellite winners. Attendance could be down A LOT next year if it stays this way.

I don't think this will happen. The online rooms will just pay cash and have players sign an agreement to wear clothes and get free hotel in exchange for wearing logos and hats.

Let's not forget that International players will also win sats to get in, I don't see how Harrahs can (or would) prohibit them from playing.

As far as US players...Harrahs doesnt have a choice but to reject any type of payment for entry to a wsop event(or anything else) from an offshore poker room. There is ZERO chance that they risk even taking cash (directly)from them.
The room will have to deposit the cash to the player account and then hope the player and then buys in directly.
Attendence will be down( significantly) this year. The main event will be most affected.

Why?

It isn't illegal to play poker or win seats online in the US!

I really don't get it.

I thought this was just about transferring money using banks/credit cards???

Maybe it goes beyond that? But most don't think so.

Not True. Not only are there otherways around this lets not forget that there is no limit to how many seats you can buy. A online room can purchase 100 seats and do what they want with them. I wont be suprised to see 12000 players at this years main event and still alot from online.

I agree losercore, they may have to hide the fact somehow that the entrant came from an online satelite, if he/she is an American
