Default Impossible Scenario

First, I can not imagine any scenario where PokerStars after flagrantly violating the law in the eyes of the U.S. will then just be given a free pass if online gaming is legalized. The companies now taking U.S. players will have to be bought out if the U.S. legalizes online gaming.

Second, why are so many people discussing the possibility of legalizing online gaming when they just passed a law to make important aspects needed for online gaming illegal. If anything the laws are going to be strengthened in the future not liberalized. How often does the government give up control over an illegal activity in favor of legalization and taxation? Not very often and if it does it takes years. Also, the federal system in the U.S. makes it much more difficult to pass laws that take away what is traditionally an activity regulated by states.

I am afraid we are in for a long haul before online gaming is anywhere close to legalized in the U.S., probably something like 10 years from now.

He's right, it will be years before we see anything happening in the US. But there is nothing wrong with building your site for the non-us right now. Just get ready for a traffic surge if and when the US comes back into the picture.

The inference should'nt be that they would be the only legal site, I should have more clearly stated that i beleive they anticipate being one of the first and hope players will understand what they did when they did it.

I have been in the poker industry for 15 years. I have seen poker players do things to friends, co-workers, mothers , fathers, siblings and anyone else they could that you would not believe.
I think they would get over it pretty damn quick.

Don't forget Blake that 3.3 billion a year will look mighty tasty. The more democrates we have in there, better our chances.

Default Democrats

If your hoping the Democrats are going to save poker I think you must have stayed a little too long in Amsterdam. What the world needs is less government not more. The choice between Republicans and Democrats is like asking a condemned man if he would rather be burned at the stake or drawn and quartered. The only real difference between the two parties is about 2% in the marginal tax bracket. I think I will abstain and let the Titanic run aground by itself without me attempting to rearrange the deck chairs. I will let you charge at that windmill all by yourself. Onward Don Quixote, onward.

I didn't say there is a good chance, but its apparent that any chance that we have is through democrats not republicans. The current republicans are out their with the sword of god to save us from our selves.

I think the most important thing we can do is flex our voting muscles. We need a group like PPA to give poker players people to vote for. This way we could get a couple reps and senators to help our cause to gain extra votes. Ill ride my horse into the ground if it helps us in even the slightest way...if I do nothing at least I didn't give up

Default The growing poker wars

Further evidence of the growing divide between the the non US poker rooms and the US player poker rooms:

"Mr Garber conceded PartyGaming had been overtaken as the world’s largest poker operator by rival PokerStars, but described the Israeli-owned group as a “black market operator”."

"Andy McIver, chief executive, warned yesterday that even Paradise players outside the US, who last year produced 19% of revenues, "may be difficult to retain given the threat from black market sites"."

These are the quotes from a Guardian article somebody pasted on another thread.

Now if I could only accurate predict who will win the World Series....
