How do you make a single link on a page to not be followed or indexed,

Was thinking of doing this to all the affiliate links on my site so need to know how its done.

so if i only dont want this link followed or indexed how would that happen , and is it a good idea to no index no follow all affiliate links?

Some bigger sites throw in no follow tags sparatically. Not too sure on the subject though.

Would using a no follow tag help with SEO?
I.E, by adding no follow tags to affiliate links on your main page would that decrease any penalty that might be accessed by search engine?
I am thinking more along the lines of 1 page sites rather than applying it to mutlipage sites where you can have your affiliate links in sub pages.

See hoursurfer's post. But nofollow does not lead to a page not being indexed and the link not followed. A link that has nofollow on it will still be followed and the destination page will still be indexed. The nofollow tag merely means no link reputation or value will be passed to the destination page.
