If so, then I think the Coca-Cola executives who came up with New Coke are finally off the hook for worst business strategy ever.

OMG - my head is spinning from all this.
Hopefully you're right offyourface - has there been any word from AP about whether the hand histories are authentic or not?
I kinda think that if they were faked that AP would have made a statement saying so - but, who knows what those guys at AP are thinking - they don't seem to be handling this well at all - someone needs to hire a crisis management consultant!
I can easily imagine someone making the HH's up - people would go to extraordinary lengths to pull off a hoax like this. Bringing down a huge poker site - that's mega, well worth a couple of late nights for people into that sort of thing. I know people who have spent weeks setting up hoaxes at Uni and that was just to con 30-40 people - just for a laugh.
There are 2 stories related to this on Digg's front page - this is only gonna get bigger from now on.

Blog people are so weird lol. Mainstream news may not be the best thing for our fight to win back the US market in this case.

I would say that unequivocally there is not a snowballs chance in hell that AP made this up on their own.
Pulling a hoax is one thing. Making up a story that could essentially decimate your own multi-million dollar business is far fetched.
If anyone thinks AP purposely started this, or is enjoying any second of it, pass over whatever it is you're smoking.

This particular thread has bad intro.
But seeing as its on this topic now here are some thoughts I posted elsewhere earlier:
Quote:
This cheating scandal is the best thing to happen to fish in a long time. It scares away the more savvy players who populate poker forums which levels the playing field for them. Then when they still lose in the long run (hopefully slower now) they have something to blame, but ultimately most will still play there.
This whole thing feeds the gambling nature quite well. If AP can contain the discussion from spewing regularly into the poker client or if they at least seed tables shills this, while ultimately was high risk and certainly was not their place, all has the potential to be extremely profitable for them.
The average person might disagree with this but I completely agree. Look at companies like BetUS. Fish freaking love them but they're are a company who decides if it will be more profitable to stiff or pay their clients cash out requests on a case by case basis as part of their standard withdrawal process. Even most fish know deep down that BetUS is a scam but they get their small withdrawals from time to time and they know they are a loser anyways. If you don't win gambling (sports, poker, casino, or whatever your betting) wtf does it ultimately matter if the games are rigged or the site is a scam. BetUS gives them the most fun experience - ships the free hats, t-shirts, coffee, vodka, footballs, calendars etc while giving them great customer service and VIP like treatment.
As long as AP leaves that shadow of doubt and has people to defend them they will continue to do just as well as they are now.
Now if they could learn a few thing from the Scam operators they would be lights out ahead of those guys because AP/UB actually did have a great reputation long history and do payout. Its time to focus on the fish and leave the element of doubt out there with the other side of the poker world. I think AP focusing to much satisfying poker communities right now would be a huge mistake - no matter what they do people will not be satisfied anyways. So go through the motions and in the meantime focus on making those fish feel like VIP royalty.
In the meantime I'm going to pop in from time to time on their software and take advantage of this all too. I deposited $200, ran it to $600 in PLO waited the 48 hours needed and cash the full balance out yesterday. I'm going to see how long checks take and probably continue to take shots like this while the games are soft. |

Yup, I completely agree.
But smart management can make the best out of any situation. Where there are sour lemons so can there be lemonade made.
I don't think AP is in trouble one bit, its probably a stressful time for their management team but if they work through it and overcome this challenge they could in the end make more money long term now.
Its far to high risk for there to have been any possibility they did this on their own as a publicity stunt though.
