Actually I think the longest standing online poker room is the original poker.com/ now ThePokerClub.com. I think Paradise came later.

Planet came out in 1998, this much I know for sure. A lot of rooms came online in 1999 but a lot did not start real money play until much later, as late as 2001 in many cases.

In 1999 there was Planet and Poker.com, I think around the same time late 99 early 2000 there was PokerSpot and Paradise then a whole bunch others. They all started popping up all over the place.

It would be one of the two as the oldest room still in business: ThePokerClub.com or Paradise. Interestingly enough they both were independent rooms at one time and both ended up joining a network.

Planet was endored by Mike Caro in it's day. Last year Mike joined Doyle Brunson to endorse Poker1.com

Didnt realise pokerroom was so old. But then again with a domain like that it must have been snapped up pretty early.

i would think that it planet had just held out through some maybe harder times as competition rose, and rested on the foundation of being the oldest poker room, eventually advertising wouldn't even be much needed.

Forgot PokerSpot but most have blocked that out of memory.

Just a guess but i think that one probably goes between pokerclub and true.

Looks about right though.
So it just goes to show being first is not as important as being the best.

The longest lasting poker room that is still independent (not part of someone elses network) would be True Poker. That is if they are still in business? there site looks like they are though, but I don't know anyone who plays there.

Planet Poker had a security issue in 1999 with their shuffle algorithm when somebody was able to predict exactly which cards would come out of the deck. They were never able to regain player trust, and ceased real money play this year.

Default I thought it was pokerroom

hi

I might be wrong but I think pokerroom was the first poker room - they certainly used to claim to be the oldest

guess its down to definitions of first - first real money / first game etc

cheers scrawnybob

PokerRoom started in 2001.
They had play money for a long time before that just for fun so maybe thats why they claimed it.
If that is the case maybe Pogo has a claim at having had the first poker room too .
