Default Bugs with Firefox

Has anyone come across problems with pages not loading properly in Firefox, compared to IE...i.e. alignment problems and tables going whacky?

Know about any workarounds?

happens all the time. There are different things you can do but here are a few.
  • Design the page for Firefox. More often than the other way around, if it looks good in Firefox it will look good, at least better, in IE.
  • Get a coder to check the users browser and change the page accordingly (best way to do it but cost some $$) This is the same as having the page check what resalution the visitor has and changing the page the page(s) accordingly.
Also depends on of if these pages are static html or genereated PHP too.

Check out some of the scripts websites and see if you can do it yourself or just hire a codder from sitepoint or somewhere. First you need to determine what browser the visitor has and then have the code change if it is Firefox for example.

I've seen a few site use different pages. you could esaily set up a redirect to another page that is designed for the other browser once you determine the browser. This can be done yourself but I'm not a fan of this for SEO reasons.

Hope this helps a bit

I could not understand what was happening.

I really thought I was starting to lose my mind!
(Well, I probably *am*....but.....)

As far as designing for Firefox initially, that's been the problem....I cannot get the HTML Tags to work properly for certain things involving alignment and inserting images and tables...

Maybe it would be different if I were using Dreamweaver or something, but I have been trying to do this stuff manually.

And I was hoping somebody knew of some "hacks" to make it do what you want it to.

You may want to try validating the code...
http://validator.w3.org/
That might help...but it wont hurt.

good old fashioned HTML.

Trying to build some tables, for example, and Firefox either does not want to align them properly in the place within the page where I insert the tables.

Text does not wrap properly, tables can end up on top of one another,
images inserted into table cells can end up sitting on top of the table!

Yes, a big solution would be to just use an editor.
But I am trying to learn how to modify my pages myself, so that I understand cause and effect.

You're not going to like the answer but here it is...CSS

If you design your pages using a CSS you will eliminate this problem. CSS is easy but if this is an exsisting site that can blow. On a new site it's so worth it.

I would not build a site now without a CSS for at least fonts and tables

Also regarding using just the HTMl and not using software to do it. Why don't you just edit the HTML within a program like FrontPage? This could helo because you could at least view it right away without having to save and upload it each time. You can stu=ill use just HTML and not use the WYSIWYG
