Linking pages

I was wondering.. and please excuse any so called newbie questions but here comes another.

When google crawls your site they pick up links and follow them correct? Than should I be linking my pages togther. By this I mean say I have 4 articles just to keep it easy

abc, def,ghi, jkl Each article co-relates to the next...so I should be somehow linking abc -> def-> ghi-> jkl->and back to abc this way the bots will be crawling each page by following the links.

I thought I would ask even though to me this seems like a common sense, but in the same token I am not sure if this would be the correct thing to do because wouldn't this cause them to be running circles?

You can link different ways...

Link A to B,C,D... Link B to A but not C and D
Link all of them to each other

In general running the bots "in circles" is good. Just don't ever make a dead end (a page that links to nothing at all).

why is it bad to make a dead end? like a forum, are post on a forum with no like a dead end?
