Hi,
I'm new here just found the site from a link at 2+2.

I'm researching the affiliate business with the hope to start up myself.
I am conserned that trying to get a new site popular and then convert players to sign ups will be very hard with all the other portals about.

To tip my toe in the water i was thinking of being a sub for a rakeback affiliate. I can offer new players about 2% extra RB over the affiliates site and keep 2% for myself.

I have no idea about how successfull advertising can be but i was thinking of promoting the extra deals with some sponsered forum posts and small adds on various popular poker sites. Simply refering any players to my affiliates site (with a code to get the extra RB over the sites shown rates).
Is this a weak idea?

Any advice is very welcome.

Thanks

I dont think ever trying to start a business and make some extra money is a weak idea.

You will certainly find jumping into the rakeback market competitive. But the "normal" affiliate market it incredibly competitive as well, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

You will need to do a few things:

1. Offer a good product
2. Give people a reason to choose you as a vendor of this product rather than someone else.

Are you easier to get ahold of? Are you nicer than most people? Do you give your players more back than normal? Do you have a great website with updated stats? Do you run monthly tournaments for your players? All things that might possibly make a player consider going with you before another affiliate, rakeback or not.

You will find that this site is basically an encyclopedia for affiliates. If you need search engine help? Thats here. Design help? Here also. Search the pages for anything you need, and if you dont see it, well just ask.

Good Luck
