Default Giving away a WPT seat - is it doable?

Hey guys, my site has started picking up traffic from people searching for info on a WPT event in the area. The event is at the end of this month so I'm already crunched for time.

I was thinking about a promo to build membership where I give away a seat via a freeroll on Absolute Poker.

Has anyone else every tried such a thing? Or can anyone think of a better way to capitalize on the boost in traffic?

Difficult question without a good sense of your numbers, its a big prize to offer without some guarantee that you'd get the sign ups to cover it.

An alternative might be to find a room already running satellites to this event and promote them instead... Bodog's 'Players Choice' tourneys might be a good bet.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks mftpg for your response. I have a brand new site and am a brand new affiliate so you're right, it would be difficult to guarantee a seat.

I just had another idea on how it might work. Chipleader, the affiliate program for AP and UB, have a large bonus for new affiliates in their MGR program.
  • Rake over $1,000 in your first full month and get a $100 bonus
  • Rake over $5,000 in your first full month and get a $500 bonus
  • Rake over $10,000 in your first full month and get a $1,500 bonus
  • Rake over $20,000 in your first full month and get a $2,500 bonus
  • Rake over $50,000 in your first full month and get a $10,000 bonus
What if I did the promo as "The person who plays the most raked hands at level 'x' or higher will win a seat"

In the promo details it would specify that a seat to the Championship Event would only be guaranteed if the total rake generated is $50k or more. Otherwise the winner will receive a buy-in to one of the $1000 events.

If it doesn't work out like this I may end up doing the Bodog promo as you suggested.

LOL pretty freakin' sick!

I think this year I'm going to focus on promoting Bodog's Player's Choice as someone else suggested.

By next year's WPT event I'll have enough members to pull off giving away a seat.

If you haven't noticed, I get carried away with my big ideas sometimes... ok MOST of the time lol.

Thats the way to be man, especially with business on the internet. All you need is to hit the right keys in the right order on that keyboard and bam you're rich.

It is doable but in that case you really need a huge site with alot of visitors. I dont think the visitors will start to show up just for this promotion. Or maybe they would if you could guarantee them something.

What if only 5 people show up and rake under $1000? You need a backup plan for everything.

Good luck mate!
