Found this great advice on a "geek" website. It's a good thing to think about, as I even recognize that my physical health has diminished over the past couple years

Given that everyone reading this newsletter is a nerd, or a wannabe-nerd. Sitting on one's ass all day is probably not that uncommon amongst our group! That being said, I thought that a few weight loss tips might help out:
Don't change what you eat, just change how you eat.
Chew each mouth full ten times. Don't be a pelican and swallow your meal in one piece!
Water purifies the body and eliminates waist. Drink lots of water all day. A 200lbs man should drink 1 gallon a day! For people on the metric system: 1 US gallons = 3.7854118 liters.
A good friend of mine was in the 101 st airborne and he was taught this nifty trick to determine if you are drinking enough water: if your urine is not clear then you need to drink more water. If you do this, you will start to feel really good inside whether you're fat or thin!
Don't listen to what your parents probably told you - don't finish your plate of food! You should get into the habit of leaving 10-20% of your food on the plate. Either toss it in the trash, or save it for the next day.
Weight yourself every day! If you see your weight go up a pound, it is easy to make a slight change to fix this. On the other hand, if you check your weight only once and a while and you find one day your up 10 lbs, it's a much harder problem to deal with.
Don't change what you eat - going 'cold turkey' and radical diet changes never works. Eat the same food, just follow the above rules and mix in some greens. Of course, to gradually move over to the better foods (greens and unprocessed foods) is always the best thing to do. You are what you eat - who wants to be a walking Big Mac!
A lot of people try to make huge changes to what they eat and then they fall back into old habits and get fatter than ever. Don't fall into the same trap, make small changes and you will stick to them because small changes are easy.
As you can see, staying thin and healthy has much more to do with your HABITS, not counting calories! I've lost 40 lbs doing this, and have kept it off for many years.
