Introduction from CakePoker
Hi folks,
Doug here, Game Designer behind CakePoker.
Some of you've hear from our Affiliate Manager Chris concerning our site's offer of '50=50'. We're 2 players away from one of our first affiliates hitting the deal and we're in the hunt to find a few more.
Cake's not your average site, as you might guess. We built this engine from the ground up and had two important groups in mind: Players and Affiliates.
Try Cake out for 10 minutes and you'll begin to see why our promotions are already getting copied (you know who you are...daily lottery...hmmm).
My background and training is actually in Video Game design and it was my responsibility to study the best and attempt to improve. With 5 PC titles designed and shipped for companies like Atari, Disney and THQ with budgets of over $5 Million dollars for one of them, I was tasked to study the poker industry.
Over 50 different sites and engines are on my PC at work. I've watched ZeroRake crash and burn, Tilt take off and Noble irk off player after player with slow play until they tossed the 3d. I've been an active poster at 2+2 for over a year in order to learn more about what poker players wanted from their site in terms of speed and game play. And for all my time in the world of online Poker, I've discovered something quite basic was missing: Fun.
Poker by itself is a great game. In encourages players to chat, compete, etc. And like any great game, every time you play you become stronger at it. But when 500+ poker sites are offering the exact same features, how does a player remember his/her time on Bob’s Poker or Tom’s Poker or Joe’s Poker? More importantly for you as an affiliate: what makes a player you refer to Cake...stay on Cake? The answer: Ownership.
There are a number of very unique promotions on Cake like the Gold Cards, Cake Slices and Share Cake. There are also tools like the web-shareable hand histories that are starting to make waves. These elements reward players in such unique ways that Cake has the distinct pleasure to report that 1/5th of EVERY player who’s signed up at Cake checks in with the site almost daily (and that number goes to 45% who uniquely check in with us weekly). That’s a huge bonus for a new site.
Cake still has some growing to do in terms of the game offering before we’ll begin pushing open the doors a bit more for the general public. We’re marketing strictly to sites who are interested in helping Cake be fun and friendly little corner of the web to play some poker and have a laugh. These players are very vocal about what they like/don’t like about the site and we’re enjoying the opportunity to get to know everyone personally before the gas pedal hits the floor.
As you can tell, I’m passionate about what we’ve built, as are the rest of the team. Honestly, we shopped around looking to buy a poker engine over 2 years ago, looking to jump into the industry, but none of the engines did anything close to what we wanted in terms of new features. As a new site, we’re moving forward methodically to insure that the service is both robust and steady. I’ve personally worked and spoken with a number of our affiliates to offer them never-before-seen promotions and challenges for their players, which have worked out very well.
Affiliates have some never-before-seen features at their disposal as well to help with getting tracked to players (especially affiliates with active forums). And by the way, we’re giving away 1% of Cake Gaming N.V. shares to one lucky Affiliate in Jan, 2007.
You folks have a lot to add and I'm looking forward to your input, advice and questions. Since our site is new, many of our offerings are up for modification and I’m looking forward to healthy discussion about what Cake might be able to do to earn your trust and attention.
Regards,
Doug
