Traffic 101: Part 2 - Guest Posts
June 19 2014
This week we continue our series of articles about ways to get more traffic to your website. You can find the first part here. Today, as you may already have guessed we want to talk about guest blogging. But here’s the deal. Writing a guest post is only a small part of what guest blogging consists of. So let’s take guest blogging and break it all down.
Guest blogging basics
As we promised in the first part of the series, we will be taking a closer look at different ways to bring traffic to your website. Like guest blogging.
However, we have to start with a disclaimer.
Guest blogging is definitely not for everyone. Due to recent Google algorithm changes it has changed a lot in a sense that it’s much harder to use guest blogging to improve SEO through backlinks.
Now guest blogging requires much more effort because you have to be focused on quality.
The good news is that quality guest posts can be a great way to help you establish authority in your area as well as target customers better.
Let’s look at guest blogging step-by-step:
• Find a suitable blog
First, you need to find a website that cares about what you have to say, has steady traffic and accepts guest posts. You can go for traditional ways like search for blogs, contact them and make an offer.
Here’s our suggestion: Gambling King is a website that accepts guest posts. You can start by contacting them (read their guidelines first). However, this is just an idea to get you started. You can search for similar websites that are closer to yours.
Preferably, you should search for blogs that also add a little paragraph about you rather than just include a backlink to your website. Something along the lines of:
About the Author: John Doe is an author, writer, part-time poker player and has been involved in online gambling for over 5 years. You can visit his blog on JohnDoe.com and find him on Twitter and Facebook.
You get the idea. This way you not only get a backlink, you also increase your authority and promote your brand .
Another way is to use so-called blogging markets, like Guest Crew that’s a community of guest bloggers. You can offer to write as well as hire guest bloggers, create campaigns to increase visibility, authority and traffic.
Alternatively, you can use message boards to tell the community that you are offering guest posts, if anyone’s interested.
• What to write?
Start with your recent article. Let’s say if it was about something from World Series of Poker, search for blogs that cover live poker events.
If you find a website with a guest post in it, make a note. It means that they do accepts guest posts as well as they accept guest posts about the subject you are writing about.
That's perfect. All you need now is a guest post. It has to work as a bridge between the website you write guest posts to your own website. They already have your target audience. Now you need an interesting post, a unique view that would compel people to visit your website to know more about what you have to say.
Similarly to everything else, writing your first guest post is the hardest. But after a few, you will be able to find bigger sites with lots of traffic that will post your articles.
Conclusion
Even if guest posts are not for you, don't worry. There are plenty of ways to bring traffic to your website without much effort. If you think you can get something out of writing guest posts, let us know if you will have any problems.
