Plan ahead and save 4 billion dollars

May 25 2014

The story is as old as the earth itself. Boy meets girl. They fall in love. Get married. About what nobody anticipated was that it will suddenly become the biggest divorce the world has seen. There;s a possibility that there is much more to that story and that we may have missed something in the middle but the end result doesn’t change. As it was announced, divorce settlement is a whopping 4.5 billion US dollars.

World’s biggest divorce settlement

This week this was the story everyone wanted to cover. Swiss court has ruled that the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev had to pay his ex-wife Elena Rybolovleva $4.5 billion in alimony including properties worth hundreds of millions and custody if their youngest daughter Anna.

Mr. Rybolovlev, owner of AS Monaco football club and his wife got married in 1987 but 21 years later they decided to separate. And six years later they still fight over who keeps what. Even after the decision of the Swiss court it doesn’t seem to end because Mr. Rybolovlev and his team of lawyers are already getting ready for an appeal.

You may think this is far away from affiliate marketing business you are running but there are certainly lessons to be learned from that story. Basically, mistakes cost. Sometimes, they cost a lot.

Of course, we are not saying in any way that Mr. and Mrs. made a mistake by getting married. However, a prenuptial agreement could have saved AS Monaco owner 4.5 billion dollars so it was at least worth considering.

We have nothing to do with marriage counseling or civil laws so let’s just stick to what we know – affiliate marketing.

Certainly, not all mistakes cost. But you never know which ones will be the most costly.
So, if there is something you can plan ahead, do it. It may save you a lot of money.
So what are the things, you can think of beforehand in affiliate marketing?

• First impression

You only have a few seconds before your first-time visitor decides to stay or to close that browser tab. naturally, you will not have another chance to make a first impression. So make sure the website looks appealing, you have menus for easy navigation and your best offers on display.

• Deals

If you see that people tend to spend some time on your website but they don’t convert, the answer may be simple. They don’t find what they need.

You may have an offer that is valuable but you can’t make people sign-up if they don’t want it. What do people want? They want solutions to their problems.

Analyze where are your visitors are coming from and think of what do they expect when they click that link. It’s really important to understand how can you help those that visit your website.

• Follow-up

This concerns everything from interaction on social networks to email campaigns. Even if you don’t have a website yet, once you have a name for the website, go and create accounts on social networks. Plan ways your customers will be able to contact you. Email? Skype?
You need to be accessible as it may make all the difference in conversion rates.

All in all, think about the future of your business and act now. And maybe sign a prenup before you get married (optional).
