5 Cornerstones of selling better
March 28 2014
Do you really know how to sell?
As a poker or casino affiliate, you probably play a bit yourself. If you do, you understand some strategies, rake and rakeback, follow what’s new in the online gambling world and could explain the specifics to your players relatively easy. But in poker affiliate marketing your most important skills do not come from poker. Are you sure you know how to sell properly?
We often talk about newsletters, setting up a good website or improving content. These are all parts of marketing. Today we want to get down to the basics and talk about how to get your message across easier and sell more.
Let’s start by looking at where are you know.
• Do you already have a website or are you just starting out?
Creating everything from scratch might sound difficult but if you still don’t have a website, start now! Mistakes are inevitable and the sooner you have some data to work with, you can analyze your mistakes and start working on improving.

• What’s your traffic?

• What’s your conversion rate?

5 lessons to sell online better
• Too much or too little?
This is not about the message itself but it’s still very important to selling better. If you have too little poker rooms, online casinos, your visitors might not find what they are after and look elsewhere. But it’s also very easy to get confused and not choose anything if the selection is too large. What’s the sweet spot? Surely, it depends on your business strategy but starting with 4-5 poker rooms is usually optimal.
Also, always look for new programs to add to your affiliate marketing. You never know what will catch their eye next.
• Don’t sell
We know how this sounds but let’s say you want to buy something that you’re still having doubts about. Going to the shop and meeting a salesman who clearly wants to sell no matter what may actually turn you off from buying. However, you might listen and decide to make the purchase if that was a friend talking about his experience.
Do you see where are we going with this? Selling is fine but first you need to develop trust and reliability.
• Attention-grabbing headlines
Whatever the piece is, the message will not get across if it doesn’t get clicked. So, make sure you headlines are worth clicking on. It may be a lesson, value they may be interested in, something intriguing or completely unexpected.
Some examples:
• Stop making these pre-flop mistakes
• A lesson that will save you a buy-in every x hands
• How to make the right river decision
• Win more in Blackjack using this simple techinque
Well, you get the idea.
However, remember that if they click on the headline and find nothing that they expected, you will lose trust and may even lose the player. You must deliver what you promise!
• Emotion sells
Oh, you know it does! You could probably think of a time from last week when you bought something just because you were emotional. It actually is illustrated best in markets like weight loss. That’s why most of the ads for weight loss supplements start with “Are you frustrated with weight loss? Do you want to finally have that perfect body?”
If you just read that in an infomercial voice, it probably sounded corny. But that’s why they do it (maybe too much)! It just works!
Another way to trigger the readers’ emotion is adding a little story, some kind of a personal touch. For example, you can add a series of articles to your website about a challenge you have set up, reasons why you do what you do.
• Calling to act
Which leads us to the last part of your message. A call to action or CTA. Whether it’s an article, a review or a video, make sure to add a clear call-to-action message at the end. It’s often regarded as one of the most important parts of your article! So, instead of ending your message with “see you soon”, ask them to visit/buy/share or do whatever you want them to do.
