Reasons why one night stands are bad for your affiliate marketing

March 20 2014

One night stands may be great in real life. They’re wild and exciting. But in business, especially like affiliate marketing you should stay away from these short-term adventures as much as possible. Even if you experienced them in the past here’s why you should focus on developing strong, lasting relationships.

NO to one night stands!

It’s all about the relationships, isn’t it? One night stands might be great for a few valid reasons but as an affiliate your goal should always be to develop a long-lasting relationship. And yes, some relationships will eventually end but if you can prolong it, it’s definitely worth the effort.

One night stand equivalent in affiliate marketing is you getting a new visitor to your website, maybe a new prospect that signups to a poker room but you never reach out to them.
Technically, you did your part by setting up the website and promoting the poker rooms but it’s too early to say goodbye and hope that once in a while they will remember you.

Relationships in affiliate marketing are just like the ones of you everyday life. The attention and care will keep the flame going. However, just like in real life you can’t overdo it because showing attention will become stalking and caring will turn into neediness.

So, how do you keep the affiliate relationship going?

There are many different ways to form a lasting relationship but it mostly revolves around simple, friendly interaction. Most importantly, poker player should know that you are engaged in this relationship from the start.

Ways to develop a long-lasting relationship

• Support

Once your website visitors or your poker players experience any kind of issues, you should be there for them. So set up a good support team (even if it consists of you as the only member). It doesn’t have to be expensive!

Right down the most important questions they may have and post it as FAQ on your website. Register a messenger account (like Skype) and email accounts and do your best in reacting to issues in a timely fashion. It will take time but we promise that it pays off.

• Email Campaigns

Set up an email campaign or auto-responder emails. Start with a simple message maybe once a week and work your way from there. Don’t sell! In the beginning affiliate relationships are the most vulnerable so don’t scare your prospects away. Make sure your messages are clear and answer some concerns your player might be having. Speaking of which…

• Useful content

It applies to emails as well, but here we are talking specifically about your website. It’s not direct interaction like the ones we just mentioned but one of the key elements in your business is providing useful content. Videos, news, insights, whatever you decide. It simply must give your website visitors a good reason to come back frequently.

• Special tournaments

It’s one of the best ways to keep a relationship going. It’s like bringing your wife or girlfriend flowers or chocolate (you can be more creative than that, though) without any special occasion.

And it’s similar to affiliate business. Free stuff will keep your players happy. So, if you want to offer your players a freeroll or a buy-in tournament with an added prizepool, contact us. Depending on the poker room we’ll work out a deal that’s affordable (or free) to you and attractive to your players.

It doesn’t matter whether you focus on CPA players or revenue share players more. Growing relationships will pay off in lots of extra revenue from your affiliate marketing. If you found these tips helpful, share them with your fellow affiliates. You can also tweet us or leave a comment on Facebook.
