create a new site, or just a new page?

Dumn 'n dumber question, I am sure, but.....

You find a keyword phrase that is not already mined out, and has great potential in terms of numbers of searches.

Do you create a whole new website to exploit it?

Or, do you create a new page in your current website - centered around this key phrase - to increase the traffic?

Like, for example, Georgia's Mike Matusow blog.

Are you better off building a whole site devoted to that name, or a new section of your current site?

Take a look at some of the big sites like Pokerlistings.com. You will notice that they usually create new pages for various keywords and interlink these pages with all the other pages on their site. Since their site is already established as an authority site, the new pages will get indexed very quickly and hopefully the new pages will start to rank very well for the desired keywords.

Now, if the keywords are a bit further from the main aim of your site, I would create a new site.

I'm sure there are differing opinions but that seems to be the majority of what I see.

what about small, newer sites?
Would it not be better for them to get as much traffic coming to them from as many sources as possible?
So, shouldn't a newer site, that has next to no visibility, avoid splitting traffic up between different sites and just incorporate a new page if it is not all that alien a concept to the mission of the original?

Yes, you can get traffic from many other sites, not necessarily your own. Team up with established sites or pay them to place a link to your site on their site.

Yes, that was what I said. In the end, you just have to think about the reader. If you have a page on bicycles on your poker site, it does not help the reader of your poker site. (unless they are into riding bikes and playing poker).

If you have a page on poker TV shows, I would just create a new page. Same with poker professionals.

Why not to do both, find a catchy domain for your keyword and build an entire site around it, and creat new pages for the phrase on your established site, link them together and watch them both grow!
