Afleet Alex's rider may be fined for wearing sponsor's logo
Sponsor ParadisePoker.com to match potential fine with donation to cancer research
NEW YORK, NY, May 10 /PRNewswire/ - Jeremy Rose, the jockey that rode Afleet Alex to a third place finish in last weekend's Kentucky Derby, is being questioned by racing authorities about his use of ParadisePoker.com advertising. The controversy stems from questions about whether Rose had the ParadisePoker.com logo approved by the proper authorities before displaying it on his pants during the race. The investigation could result in a penalty for Rose.
As part of the sponsorship arrangement, the owners of Afleet Alex donated all of the money paid by ParadisePoker.com to Alex's Lemonade Stand for Pediatric Cancer Research. ParadisePoker.com is in full support of Rose and is offering to match any imposed fine with a donation to the Foundation.
"We were totally shocked to hear about this investigation and are adamant that the sponsorship was done according to the rules and regulations of Churchill Downs," said Bruce Stubbs, Marketing Director ParadisePoker.com, "However, if it turns out that Jeremy receives a penalty, we will match the fine with a contribution to the foundation. No matter what happens, there will be a happy ending."
Jockeys sued last year for the right to wear advertising on their clothing during races. Three other jockeys from this year's Kentucky Derby are also being investigated for improper advertising. The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority is currently in the process of determining whether or not these riders were in violation of the rules.

I think that's B.S. I mean these poor jockeys practically starve themselves and live in poverty if their not winning. Why the heck shouldn't they be able to have endorsements? You better believe if Paradise went too NHRA, the track, or the network, that their money and advertising would be happily accepted.
If you were in on this idea Stephen, great work! Regardless of the turn-out, this definately is giving ParadisePoker some much deserved press. I wish more Poker sites would do creative advertising like this......maybe not to the extent of Golden Palace, but there are so many easy and inexpensive ways to get your name in front of people.
Now let's talk about poker players not being able to wear an endorsement at the major tournaments. This is even more bullshit. In professional sports you could have a valid arguement that these athletes are being paid by the NFL, MLB, NHL, whatever, so no they shouldn't be able to wear endorsements during play. I agree with this.
But come on at a $10,000 buy in poker event. If we are risking our own money and not being paid by the network or anyone else for that matter, why should we not be able to get endorsed by an outside company? You better believe the networks will take all the advertising money they can get their greedy hands on. Not too mention the money they're making off just having commercials showing us as players in the tournies, or having the big players interviewed with their big ass network logo right behind them
Any other thoughts obout endorsements on athletes, especially amatuers.

Jeremy are you saying if someone wants to wear a PP shirt this year, they can't? I heard rumor about that happening last year, but it never panned out.
If thats the case, I think the Pink Bunny advertising would be outlawed pretty quickly.
I have a few kids form my university that are playing in the wsop, Im trying to get them to wear my website's t shirt, but it seems like they all have to wear a shirt from the poker room that they won the seat from.

They only have to win poker room related garb to get the free hotel rooms. Otherwise they won it, they are in it.
