Default Ladies and Gents - It's really over

Source: ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wir...2516033&page=2

Quote:
PartyGaming said in a statement, "If the President signs the act into law, the company will suspend all real money gaming business with U.S. residents."

Any ban would also hit payment processors like Neteller Plc and Optimal Group's FireOne subsidiary.

Neteller Plc said the legislation would have a "material adverse effect" on its U.S.-facing business, and its shares also more than halved in value.

There's absolutely NO QUESTION that the President will sign this into law. Two of the major players in the game have already announced that they will pull out of the US market if that happens. The short term looks bleak at this point for online gaming. We can only hope that they will somehow carve out an exemption for skill based games like poker but even that is unlikely.

Remember all those times when Jeremy and I would say "DIVERSIFY?"

I hope most of you listened....

I am in the UK and have been watching the evening news on all channels tonight. It kind of took me by surprise that on every channel it was either the #1 or 2 headline, along with the school shooting in Pensilvania.
A few points to note:
  • The reports were in no way "pro ban." They reported the ban in an unbiased way, but in interviews with exectives from 888.com they were asking a lot of grilling questions about whether investors were being mislead.
  • There was a lot of questioning about the reasons behind the ban, considering the UK is relaxing it's gambling laws.
  • It was mentioned on several channels that Land based companies in Las Vegas were lobbying the government together with christian groups for new online laws to be brought in.

Nevada casinos in no way supported this. Horse racing interests did.

When will this ban take effect if it goes through instantly or in a while?

I see this causing so much fraud and making things worse. If US residents proabaly a good chunk of the pie of the worlds poker players wont they make up addresses and then cause each room to tigthen up their security measures. This is all going to be very bad.

Funny is not the word I'd use.
