Default Bodog Marketing Conference Postponed

Yep, it's official. I can't say I blame Calvin. If he were to show up in Vegas, he mine as well show up in an orange jump suit with shackles on his ankles........and say I'm ready.

All this over playing a game of cards.

Wow that was not good at all. This just shows how scared everyone is, and its gonna raise even more flags.

I hate to say it, but Bodog really had a chance to get rid of the doubts in many people's minds. This just makes everyone look like they're guilty.

I spoke with the company today that was organizing all the speakers and he mentioned they would perhaps be rescheduling in either Vancouver or Bahamas.

Of course this is still all preliminary. I can't say I blame Bodog though for not wanting to take the risk. Although it would be quite bold to come to the U.S. and host a convention, it could also be a suicide mission for Calvin and the rest of his crew. Undoubtebly in their heads they would be thinking, well it's probably about a 50/50 chance we're gonna get popped.

On a lighter note, Kudos to Bodog for still honoring their speakers travel arrangements and costs. I know like others, I have business to tend to while there besides the conference. This would have made for some shitty last minute planning. Thanks Calvin

"This just makes everyone look like they're guilty."

They are. The US courts have already ruled on this clearly. Internet sportsbetting outfits are violating the Wire Act. There is no doubt about it (from the perspective of the US courts and government).

So anyone that is not associated with sportsbetting is safe?

They'd probably arrest him immediately if he comes to the U.S., so he made a smart move.

Here's a quote from a semi old Forbes Article:

"Ayre presumably has not just the vice squad but the tax collectors in a huff. While 95% of his sales come from the U.S., the 44-year-old doesn’t pay a nickel in corporate or personal income tax here. Is that legit? Foreigners are supposed to pay federal tax on income derived from U.S. business activities. The suckers are stateside, the electronic roulette wheels and digitized sports pools in Costa Rica. Where’s the action? It remains to be seen whether irs agents could make Ayre pay, assuming they could get their mitts on either him or his money."

There's a 99% they would arrest him if comes here w/ the way the waters currently are, and they would probably arrest him even if sports betting online was completely legit, depending on whether or not he owes Uncle Sam money.

No. Anyone taking MGR is definitely breaking the law in the justice Department's view, even though courts have ruled that the Wire Act doesn't cover non-sportsbetting. Other federal laws could be used as excuses though too.

No one who gets anickel from an online gambling business in any way could be called "safe" really, but there are a whole lot of degrees of what is more "unsafe". Clearly owning a sportsbook is the most unsafe.

I think Bodog did right by everyone at great expense. Pretty stand up IMO.

So CPA would be considered OK? I think history has proven that taking any money from an offshore betting outfit is a no-no in their book. Whether it's traditional advertising, CPA, MGR, etc it's all technically illegal to the DOJ.
