Default PKR beta

I just received my invite to beta test PKR so i signed up and downloaded the client.
Right now i have one game up that is four handed. My cpu(AMD 64 bit) is spiked and it using 1/2 a gig of ram. This this is a giant resource hog, and i am not even playing, i am sitting out.
My impression..DOOMED
They have WAY over extended themselves. I know this is beta, but i cannot see how they can trim the resource issue down.

I think that is a bit of a drastic statement for now, but yes, the Beta has been a big resource hog. However, I think that the main demographic for this site will be younger gamers who already have the latest video cards, processors, etc. I raised this concern and they claimed that it would be slimmed down for the real release. We shall see...

Perhaps a bit drastic, but, focusing at young gamers with the latest hardware is ...
Going to be a huge undertaking to get them impressed, think about what those players are USED to getting in their gaming experience. These "guys" get wigged out loosing milliseconds in lag time.
Right now the engine cant keep the actions in sync.
Again, i understand this is in beta, but there is WAY to much going on at any given moment.
Its neat, but the reality is, who is really going to pay much attention to a player doing a chip trick in a "video game". To much superfulous stuff.

Yes, I agree with you there... and having one of those gamer brother-in-laws, I can tell you how obsessed he gets about lag on "WOW". I've only tested the software a few times on PKR but I can tell you that I paid more attention to the little things going on rather than the actual game being played. It looks great but there are always a bunch of things going on simultaneously, most of which get little attention. It should be interesting to see how things pan out with this site.

Unless its first person shooter poker, a little lag shouldn't matter.

Actually, a Derringer to take out the donk that just runr runr'd yer ass would be kinda fun lol

Hey Guys

Just to clear up a few issues that have been raised...

PKR does currently have a few bugs – memory leaks and overuse of the CPU that causes the system to slowdown somewhat. We are working on this and it’s improving with each version.

As poker players ourselves we know it’s all about your cards, and we’re just trying to add a new level of realism and entertainment without compromising the cornerstones of what makes online poker so popular. To this end, there are options in the game to simply turn off all the non-poker playing related animations and sounds so you’re not distracted. Other things you can turn off include the action call-outs (our term for the animating panels on the left of the screen showing who has done what and who is left in the hand

PKR is aimed at a very broad demographic of users, it’ll run just fine for anyone who has a PC that is capable of running Windows XP. That’s almost 90% of all users, and we also cover 2000 as well, which accounts for another 5%.

The application is always going to be more demanding than the current poker offerings PKR will certainly attract the younger folks that like their eye candy who maybe aren’t such experienced Poker players, but they’re sure to enjoy the experience and will ultimately add to the online poker market!
We’re never going to please everyone, especially older poker players who play on their 3 year old laptop etc but the same is true of older sites that will never attract some of the people we will.

All of your feedback is greatly appreciated and helps us to improve the game for launch, but please remember guys its is
a Beta test.
