where do i save it on my pc? what do i name it? then where do i upload it to the index page?

I've never used the XML sitemap option, but I've used something similar.
That being said, I believe you need to save that file as "sitemap.xml" and upload it to your root directory. Then submit it to your google sitemaps account. There's no need to ever link to it from your index page, just submit it directly to google.
how would i save it - i copid and pasted it but what do i do with it now.

2. you save the text into a notepad file, and save as sitemap.xml (make sure you save as .xml file, not .txt, you just manually change the text in save as... sitemap.xml
