Holy Cow.......let me respond. I agree that proper grammar is critical. Apologies about the word revenue's and revenues as well as the other mistakes in this post and others :P

Unlike Randy I do not have a literature degree. I have a degree in Business Management and I never placed well in spelling bees when I was in elementary school

Anyways I am going to make a few grammer and spelling mistakes along the way, but it really doesn't bother me as this is a site for poker promoters not english teachers. It sounds like it really bothers you that I made the statement about gambling with affiliate revenue, so let me attempt to clarify my previous statement.

It sounds like your a winning player so #1 congratulations and none of that statement applies to you. Unfortunately about 90% (I don't know the exact statistic) of internet players are not consistent winners. In fact many people turn to promoting poker versus playing because they find it to be much more profitable. There are several affiliates who are great promoters and losing players.

Now with that said unless you are a consistent winning player I DO think its a bad idea to gamble with your affiliate income at first. Let's say you make $300 your first month as a poker affiliate and then lose every penny of it in one sitting.........how good are you gonna feel about your accomplishment. Instead imagine if you re-invested that into ppc advertising and watched that $300 grow to $500 the next month. This is how you run a business, not donking it off in a few hours every month and then having no money to reinvest in growing your business.

Again, I want to stress this is only directed at those who consistently lose at online poker. All that happens is your bankroll gets fatter every month from affiliate payments and you just start playing higher limits and then losing greater amounts.

I know this because I have tried to mentor a few people in the past who had this exact problem and I wanted to pull my hair out when they said they had no money to spend on promotion.

No need to apologise, I'm in the wrong.

Correct English is a pet peeve of mine (I still work as an editor from time to time) and it is good business. For forum posts I understand that it's not worth the time but I was kind of brainwashed (at primary school and later in the Army) that sloppiness in one unimportant area sometimes carries over to other areas where it matters.

Plus I'm cranky. :)

I guess me taking issue with the player thing was a knee-jerk response because so many people in the affiliate industry (obviously not you, since you're pretty handy at poker from what I gather) just don't seem to get poker.

Like I said, I'm cranky, I like to think my heart's in the right place though.

One mistake I made myself in the past is:

If you're running more than one site and see that a particular site really takes off. Don't give all of your attention to that site. You still need to pay attention to your other sites. Though they may not be producing like your top sight at the moment, they could take off at any given time. Once viewers see that information isn't being updated on a regular basis, they'll leave and it's hard to get them back. Someone may mention your site to them and they'll say they were already there and weren't satisfied.

I know this first hand. I've made sure that I now keep my other sites up to date. Hopefully I can get some of the previous viewers back. If they check the site out again I'm sure they'll like it, but getting them to come back is the hard part.

Another mistake that I have found to be common is that new affiliates get down about themselves when companies such as Party Poker (cough cough) put their account under investigation after the first month. A LOT of people's accounts go under investigation, but most new affiliates, even myself, want to just give up after that point because we think "hey this Party Poker place sucks because they won't even pay me what they owe me... screw them."

What a new affiliate should be doing is figuring out what they can do to get OUT of investigation. And another thing... what Party Poker should do is to make their investigations quicker and less of an inconvenience to us affiliates.

Another thing... new affiliates should NOT copy other people's content. Only original content will make you money. Pretend that your website is a school project, but a paid school project. If you cheat you fail and get expelled, but if you take your time and make everything nice and eye catching, you will get an A and will make a lot of money. It takes time to get your feet off of the ground, but once you do it everything will come 10 times easier for you!
