Poker Legend Phil Helmuth has signed a contract to officially replace Phil Gordon as the spokesperson and host of Bravo's popular series "Celebrity Poker Showdown". The series will be filmed this year in New Orleans and will have the same format as past seasons.

The show has been an extremely successful venture for Bravo and has climbed to be one of their best rated shows. Celebrity Poker Showdown has donated millions of dollars to various charities in the past and this season the largest beneficiary's will be the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This would make sens since the show will be filmed at Harrah's in New Orleans.

In a Card Player article Gordon was quoted as having some resentment against not only the network but also his replacement. Gordon said he wants to get into broadcasting professional poker tournaments, where he could “see people play in turn, bet more than $200 into a $5,000 pot, and know when they have the nuts.”

Come on now Gordon, obviously you are gettig booted for a much more successful and bigger name in the poker community. There's no need to take cheap shots like this.

Nonetheless it will be interesting to see the poker brats reactions to the famous donkey's and their plays every week. It will without doubt be a much more interesting losers lounge and should sky rocket the ratings even further. No offense to Gordon, but listening to him calling out pot odds and number of outs in this entertainment game is the equivilant of commentating a play money game at PartyPoker.

This was a very smart and strategic move for Bravo.
