Default Poker Arrests in Dallas

http://cbs11tv.com/topstories/local_...324171616.html

This honestly makes me sick to my stomach. In a country where we have pedophiles running rampant wanting to molest children, as well as people selling hard core drugs to underage children................we have a full police squad and SWAT team raiding poker games. WTF is wrong with this country's view on gambling.

Do you see a SWAT at the riverboats where people are gambling 43K in a single session or sometimes even one hand? Do you see a SWAT at the airport kiosks or gas stations that will sell someone $500 in scratch off tickets every single day? I could go to the riverboat tommorow and wire every penny I have from my bank account and this would be O.K. morally because the govt. gets their piece.

Are you fuc**** kidding me Dallas P.D.? I'm pretty sure a SWAT was not nessecary, how about you visit the owners at their home and simply charge them with whatever bullshit you're going to charge them with.

Just ridiculous, thanks for allowing me to vent.

That was messed up... those cops are a real joke. Is it really necessary to smash windows to arrest a bunch of 80 year-old grannies playing poker. That is completely ridiculous and makes me glad I live in Canada.

Actually Graham a very similar story happened in Edmonton not to long ago. Cops busted up a undergroung gambling house - and they came in with SWAT aslo - I believe.

They should have setup a bunch of computers and played against each other. Would that be withing the legal guidelines?

Such B.S.

On the same topic we posted a new article by I. Nelson Rose where he basically rips Frist apart for the bill that passed. You can read below:

Over at http://www.pokerati.com/, you can see "morning after" pics of the clubs. One of the clubs, Jackie's, was one of my favorite places to play in Dallas. I drive to Oklahoma to the legal cardrooms now since it's only a couple hours away. The police had started busting the suburb cardrooms about a year ago, which were the places I used to play at.

Just an other example of how Frist has done more damage than good. This online gaming bill will only force more players to host underground games as more card rooms close up shop.

This breaking up of "home games" is reminding me of a little time called prohibition every day.

Some see the games as "friendly," but police call it promotion of gambling
Promoting gambling?!!! Ok...now is every land based casino in the united states promoting gambling then? Ah of course...but that is ok because of the taxes....greedy little government.

Three simultaneous raids are an indication of how popular illegal poker games are in Dallas, and how determined officers are to stop them.
Those same cops will take their wives to Vegas for the weekend and blow a few grand...but that's ok.....because of the TAXES!!!!!....greedy little government.

-----------------------------------------------

Now in Canada you may think this doesn't happen. Aidan has already told a story. I remeber a few years back when Toronto had the charity casinos. They could be in the same place for 3 months and then they would have to move them. Then the provincial government said no more....greedy little government (they weren't getting any taxes). So people went underground. My father, an big player (more than me anyways) got caught in one of these raids. SWAT and all come busting in. 2 tables of middle aged men just about pissed their pants. They put them spread eagle up against the wall...after some general cop displays ...2 hours later off they went with a warning. The owners of the shop were fined.

It's a much funnier story told by my father, who has since resigned to playing online...it's much safer!

Regulation is the key. As more and more things become illegal in this country our prison population rises to epidemic proportions. This is just a result of the online gambling bill as more people struggle to find a place to play. Contrary to most here though, I do believe these clubs should be shut down. They are dangerous. Does anyone know about the large number of these type clubs that are being taken down by armed robbers? Almost every club in my area has been hit. The patrons are lucky it was the police and not somebody else intruding on their game. Its a dilema because people should be able to freely play poker wherever they want but these underground clubs are extremely dangerous. I recommend everyone avoid them, it is not worth the risk.
