A collection of insights, ideas, and thoughts about being a poker affiliate from Pokermonger.
You do not need to reinvent the wheel to be successful in the affiliate marketing of poker. This is not to say that original ideas are bad. Quite the contrary, new and original ideas are what can set you apart from your competition, but your base should be taken from successful affiliates. Spend some time looking at the sites of veteran webmasters. Look at the programs they promote and how they promote them.
Give your traffic a reason to come back to your site often. Two ways to accomplish this are providing useful information that your traffic will remember you for, and creating new content at least on a weekly basis and letting your customers know that they can expect this new content. Some sites use news feeds, some create their own content (which is by far the best solution) while others buy articles or columns. The added bonus to both of the above is they not only help your customers, but they also help you receive more customers through the search engines. Search engines like new content as well as anything.
Do not, and I repeat, do not do things that veteran webmasters tell you not to do. Things like buying traffic or advertising with banner ads on farming sites. Don’t waste your money proving to yourself that the things they tell you won’t work don’t. This leads into the most important section.
Find at least two, and preferably more, forums that deal with affiliate marketing and join them. Then read as much as you can and start posting anywhere that you can add value to a conversation. Once you start taking part and sharing some ideas, it will be much easier to receive solid information from the veterans. Don’t get involved in controversial subjects. Watch your P’s and Q’s and earn a little respect. If you are well behaved and add something to the discussions, you will be amazed at how many people will be willing to help you succeed.
Find a mentor who is willing to help you in return for signing up under them for a few of your affiliate programs. Remember that these are the people who have been there and done that, and many of them are where we want to be, making a good monthly income from affiliate marketing.
