My 2005 WSOP Main Event Experience It's not very glamorous but its a story nonetheless. I was only a few thousand spots away from the money! My 2005 WSOP Experience Event #42 $10,000 NLHE
Anyhow I got to my table #173 seat 7 and took my seat. Of course everyone is silent and looks nervous and immediately the dealer asks me what my story is with all the pink. Great, so now I am telling the whole table how I rolled my way into the WSOP. After we started I folded the first 10 - 15 hands that were dealt to me and it was one of those deals where I was biting my lip almost every other hand when I saw what would have been trips, straights, etc. Oh well I still feel I made the right move by tossing the garbage into the muck before the flop. I do feel that I was playing a little more "scared" than normal however.
I did stumble upon a few goldmine hands (AA & KK) but couldn't get any action on my pre-flop raises. The other hands that I raised pre-flop were your standard premium hands AK, AQ, AJ. Unfortunately all the flops brought straight draws, flush draws, and more importantly raisers. I didn't want to bluff off all my chips with only overcards. Needless to say a few more hours went by with not too much action on my end of the table, I had about $6000 in chips with the big stack at the table being around $20K. It was by no means go time, but I knew I just needed to wait for a monster hand, double up, and then actually have some bullets to fire with my medium hands.
Right before the break I was in a late position and looked down to see JJ. There was a $600 raise out of an early position from the second biggest stack at the table. I thought about it for a second and decided he probably had a big ace and maybe AA, QQ, or KK.....but probably not. So I simply smooth called it to see the flop. The last thing I wanted to do was pay a bunch to see a flop filled with overcards. So the flop came 7D JH 2D. It was one of those moments that I knew it was time to stack off. I saw the flush draw there but knowing I had the best hand at the moment I figured my all-in bet would take down the pot right there and keep me from getting drawn out. At this point I was hoping he had a big pair, and when he called I thought for sure he did. He flipped over AK both diamonds, the entire table stood up. The turn brought a diamond and I was done.
Who knows what would have happened had I doubled up there. I still think there is a great deal of skill when it
comes to making the money at the WSOP, but you have to win coin flip situations like this every time you get all your chips in the middle. After this hand there was only one thing I could do..............I went to the bar and got drunk off tequila. When it was all said and done I can look back and say it was great experience. Although I did not get to wear the pink bunny costume at the WSOP I did make some appearances on the strip in it. With all the publicity leading up to the event I also feel that Golden Palace easily got their money out of it. I really wish they would have been a little more proactive with wanting to promote it, but I don't run their marketing department.
There you go......not very exciting, just another bad beat story from an internet player who probably has no business sitting in the same room with Lederer, Ivey, Raymer, and Brunson. I'll run circles around those guys however in promotion.
