Las Vegas casino operator exploring online gaming Las Vegas casino operator exploring online gaming

Coincidence or not? After the recent passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act, a prominent Las Vegas Casino have announced their interest in online gaming.

Hmmm.... makes you wonder about our corrupt senator Frist and the hidden agendas with this bill.

Recently the Las Vegas Sands, casino operators and owners of The Sands and  The Venetian  announced their interest and intentions to enter the online gaming market.

Although they will not be accepting U.S. players (for obvious reasons) it does seem like odd timing considering the recent passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

The company that will be providing the gaming platform for The Las Vegas Sands is Cantor Gaming.  If that sounds familiar it is because Cantor Gaming is affiliated with the financial giant Cantor Fitzgerald, another U.S. based company.  Now although the online gaming platform will not accept U.S. players they will brand the site or sites with their Las Vegas properties such as The Sands and The Venetian.

The Sands group will operate offshore in accordance to the laws of Alderny in the British Channel Islands.  The group is expected to offer both an online casino as well as a poker room.

The real question here becomes, will this spark a whole new trend of Las Vegas casinos getting involved in online gaming.  If enough casinos launched offshore gaming operations I imagine they would come together and lobby the legislature in Washington to legalize and regulate online gaming.  Of course this would be great for U.S. players but what it would do to poker affiliates is anyones guess.

Nonetheless it should be interesting in 2007 to watch how this progresses.
